Seems like I am hijacking The Virtual Spanner with my questions but..............With Babs now having a new laptop with Windows 10 I have looked around at MS Office Suites, if I understand it correctly then Microsoft 360 is an annual renewal license and quite expensive by all accounts, the other alternative is Microsoft 2016 suite which is a one-off payment but in the three figure bracket.
Is there an alternative to MS products that are cheaper? All we need is a word processing programme on its' own or an office suite that has word and excel though excel is only an added option.
I do have Microsoft Office 2000 and works fine in Win7 but have heard that it would not be compatible with Win10. What type of word processing software do you have for Win10?
Any help appreciated.
Regards
Nigel.

Open Office https://www.openoffice.org/ is very good. And FREE and can do just about everything MSOfffice can do.

I agree with Alex. It's a very nice word processor ... The layout of commands is different than ms but it's worth the time to learn it.
Do watch the installation.. they like to Give you freebies but installing it manually you'll be able to opt out .

Re: Windows 10 Question.
That was the one I would suggest, too. It works with W7 as well as 10.
The only bit I'm not really happy with is the spreadsheet, which seems more difficult to use than Excel, but then, I was 15 years younger when I last used Excel, so maybe it's just me.

- who remembers the days when the Lotus office suite was given away free on the cover of magazines. What happened to them?

There's another alternative if you're interested Nige.. Libre Office .. http://www.libreoffice.org/
It's also free and open-source and has quite a large international following. I have it on a couple of pc's here

Re: Windows 10 Question.
Many thanks for all your help, think what I will do since Dave informed me of Libre Office being another freeware programme, I will download that one for my use and have Open Office for Babs. That way she can try both then decide on which one she prefers.
Many thanks again.
