Help needed

Post by Nigel H-J »

Posting this from my mobile and need advice regarding new reinstall of Win 7 64bit. I have found that I cannot connect to internet as the computer is showing no connection in the taskbar by the clock. I have both wireless and ethernet connection, the hub is working hence this post but after installing windows it shows no connnections available. I have tried trouble shooting but no joy. Does Win 7 not install software for inteernet connecttion?
Whe. I plug in the ethernet cable nothing happens. There was no software to install when i was first connected either.
Amy help appreciated
Regards
Nigel

Have you reformatted the entire PC I wonder and installed Windows from scratch I wonder. If so the disks that came with the PC will have drivers for networking (including internet access) on it. Otherwise I am at a loss.

You should be able to install without an internet connection, you just won't be able to activate it. Unactivated it will work for 30-60 days before it starts to block you, but that should give you time to get your connection sorted.

At a guess, you probably haven't installed the drivers for your network card or chip. They will probably be on the disc you would have got with the computer, either separately or on the motherboard driver disc. If the one you have is for older windows, it may mean a trip to the library to see if they'll let you d/l the Win 7 version.

Hi

Myles is right. You should find the drivers on the Win7 disk but mine were on the motherboard disk that came with the PC. I always have to reinstall the drivers for the network chip whenever Win 7 gets reinstalled.

I'M back on-line at last :hello: :excited:

Sorry for the double post regarding Help needed as have a small mobile phone and must have hit the submit twice by accident.

thanks for all your help and advice, went down to see Martin and it took around 2 hours to get installs and updates to connect to the internet as I needed SP1 WLAN Driver etc. etc. etc. etc!!

Quite a few bits and pieces to sort out and that was before installing 230+ updates for Win7 (which I did when I got home and all went in OK.

It makes you think though that if for any reason you cannot get an internet connection after a re-install as I couldn't, you click on the help link and go to 'Search for More Help' which in turn comes up with..........Wait for it.............

'Search Online' :wall:

Anyway all is now up and running but one question for you is that an optional update will not install:

nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Graphics Adapter WDDM2.0 - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

Download size: 277.5 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Optional

nVidia Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Graphics Adapter WDDM2.0 software update released in September, 2016

As it is optional I guess that it doesn't really need to install. For your information I have G-force 760 GTX.

Over the next few days I will have to start re-installing FSX. That will keep me busy. :cpu:

Nigel.

Don't install that optional GXT760 driver from Microsoft update. Instead, download the Win7 64bit GXT760 driver directly from NVidia: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
When running the NVidia installer, make sure you select the custom option: From the list, select ONLY the NVidia driver. Do NOT install the 3D Vision driver/controller; Nvidia update; GeForce experience and Physics. Those items are basically bloatware, not needed if you intend to use the PC for FSX/P3D.
