Looks like it's got twin SU carbs and 8 cylinders (judging from the coil leads) so something 'sporty'.

Not SU's, they are Strombergs, so a V8 British - possibly Daimler 250 Dart? or a Rover with a British/American V8 lump.

Ahh OK, they looked a lot like the ones on my old Triumph 2000 TC (a Stag wannabe) and I could have sworn they were SU carbs but I guess over time I could have mis-remembered what was on there.
