Dave, quick questions - whose Coastal Command repaint is that ? I have one filed away somewhere which was far too white, but yours looks more realistic - is that down to HDR, or are the white's RGB values wound back a notch ?DaveG wrote:

Paul.. that paint is Dave's own work. I'm sure that with a changing of coin.. a copy could be yours
Other than AD-F.. this is the only one I fly

Yep, that's one of my own.
I did it yonks ago, so can't remember where the colour values came from. I'll upload it for you later when I get home.

I had a 'Sally B' repaint, but there weren't anywhere near enough yellow and black rectangles on the starboard inner's cowling, so I ditched it. If the AD-F you fly is also one Dave G's, he may end this day as much as 10p richer.
EDIT: ooops, you posted while I was posting, Dave G. Yes please - if you could upload it I would be very grateful.

Re: Just a couple
This is how it looks in FSX Paul. Shading is obviously different in P3D..

Hi Dave B,
Yep, that looks much better than the near-incandescent white on the repaint I used to have, and as you say, P3D will affect it further. Thanks for posting them - very helpful. Am I right in thinking that, in reality, Coastal Command never employed the G-model B-17/Fortress III ? It doesn't matter as it's a mere chin-turret of difference, but I'm curious about whether it was ever used or tried out by C.C.
Talking of graphics and shaders and so on, I've recently installed a free app called Prepar3d Tweak Assistant, with which the shaders and graphics.cfg can be adjusted and experimented with. It seems to have gone down very well on the Avsim forum - is anyone here using it ?

Re: Just a couple
Paul..
Although the RAF did get G's later on, I don't think they were ever used by Coastal Command. Early CC use was done using the Fortress Mk.I (our designation) which were cast-offs from Bomber Command. An interesting piece here on U-Boat.net .. http://www.uboat.net/allies/aircraft/b17.htm
Another interesting snippet from there is that an unarmed Mosquito could carry the same bomb load as a B-17
Dave painted the 'G' as up to the AH 'F'.. that's all there was

Thanks for the link, DB. Yes, I was sort of aware that the Mosquito could carry the same load as a B-17 if the latter was on a long range mission - I say 'sort of' because I wasn't sure whether it was one of those apocryphal tales, like the Flying Tiger's shooting down Japanese aircraft before Pearl Harbour, or the Germans calling the P-38 'Forked Tail Devil'.DaveB wrote:Paul..

Yes indeed, and I'm glad he did - it will look great on my A2A Fort. However, there is now a B-17F by Aeroplane Heaven which I'm sure you and DG are very keen to own !Dave painted the 'G' as up to the AH 'F'.. that's all there was![]()
Worth the effort, DG, or is it over rated ?DaveG wrote:I used PTA with P3d 3.3 but not yet with 3.4.
