Windows 10 DLL.XML problem

Post by hobby »

I seem to be going through a bit of a computer sticky patch recently.

I am running Windows 10 and I have FSDT FSX Ground services loaded which worked without any problems until a couple of weeks ago.

When I activate FSX I get an error message from my FSDT program and after I have deleted that program entirely and then re-install I see that the program cannot find DLL.XMl and therefore will not work.

Can a forum member please tell me what I have to do to replace or repair the DLL.XML in FSX?

Fsx doesn't create a dll.xml by default. You can create one yourself, but probably the easiest way to get one is to install FSUIPC. That will automatically create one if it doesn't exist.

I did delete my current version of FSUIPC saving all those files in a desktop folder and renaming them OLD FSUIPC.

I then downloaded a new version of FSUIPC from Peter Dowson's website and installed the FSX version. All seemed to go well on the installation that I have not yet registered.
When I ran my FSX I still got the same message indicating that FSDreamTeam Ground Services could not be run.

I then attempted to run my ASNext but received the message: "XML issue file cannot be verified in C:\users\name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\exe.xml"

When I examined the above address a lot of files at that location appeared to be faded in colour, as if they really had not been installed properly.

More help needed please.

Hobby..

Active Sky Next has an entry in exe.xml..

<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
<Descr>Launch</Descr>
<Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>as_btstrp_config_manager</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Path>as_srv\as_btstrp_config_manager.exe</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

I don't understand why exe.xml would be greyed out. Never seen that at all though I don't use FS on anything I have with Win10. Looking at my entry, I'm not entirely sure SimBase.Document should be the last line!! I can send you a copy of my file if you like but there's no guarantee it will work.

That looks about right to me Dave. I'm not at home at the moment so can't check for sure though.
If a file is greyed out it usually means is a hidden file.

Yup.. ASN works fine. I'd forgotten Simbase.Document came at the end and was surprised to see it :lol: I had AIC in there too but found that having to go into FSX a lot while checking repaints could trip AIC (and thus FSX) up so removed the AIC entries and put a shortcut to the exe on my desktop.
Still.. never seen exe.xml greyed out although the AppData folder is.

Assistance from my computer manufacturer and the technical staff at HiFi Simulations has identified the root of the problem as a recent update or series of updates from McAfee which is the security system used by my ISP = BT.
I have just run a McAfee program called mvt.exe (McAfee Virtual Technician) which found 4 faults in my system and has corrected 3 of these. I expect to have the latest McAfee update installed automatically within the next 15 minutes. I expect to have to be in touch with McAfee Support staff later this evening.

These problems need to be solved so that I can once again run FSX, ASNext and UT2 simultaneously.

Progress report later.
