fsx re-install

Post by dodger »

Hi,

I un-installed my fsx and now when i try to install it again i get this message,

Patch Package could not be opened ms x msi.

I have run CCleaner to clean fsx from the registry ok made sure as far as i can that no fsx files are about in the PC

I have spent hours and hours trying to find an answer, i have had fsx for years and have uninstalled it before and reinstalled but i have never had any problems and never seen this before,

I am no PC wizard but i right clicked on the fsx dvd in G. and can see this msi installer in the disc so i know it's not missing, msfs are no help so i'm at a loss,

I am using XP.

Any help would be appreciated,

Roger.

Hi Roger, this may not be of any help for you but.....Once when I was re-installing FSX I got a strange unable to locate (cannot remember what it exactly was) but then found that my disc was a bit dirty. Try cleaning the disc with a soft cloth then try again.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Hi Nigel,

No luck but thanks for your reply,

This msi file i have found on the fsx disc is a read only file but why it's not working i hav'nt a clue, i have tried again today and i have two fsx disc 1 and it's the same on both of them!!

I am getting to around to thinking about doing a XP reformat on my PC and starting again but i think what if i do, it might be all for nothing,

I suppose there is always fsx Steam!!

Cheers,

Roger.

Found this at Microsoft:

It seems to be similar to what you're doing now Roger though using MS software.

TBH.. the last thing I'd try to do would be to reinstall WinXP. At the very least, I'd look for a copy of Win7 SP1.

Hi Dave,

No good, the trouble is Microsoft has finished the cleaning utility for xp, no surprise there, i will have to upgrade xp is old i know but it's been ok up till now,

I have looked in the registry and i can't find anything to do with fsx, i did upgrade to the latest drivers for my nVidia card that's about the only thing i have done recently, i just don't understand it.

I would pull my hair out but i have not got any!!!

Cheers,

Roger.

Hello Angus,

Thanks for your help but I have tried that , still no good ,

What I find frustrating is not ever had anything like this before but on my countless searches around the net I seem to have been lucky the four and a half years I have had fsx running on my PC and yet I have installed FS2004 with no problems,

Good Nite

Roger.
