Yes.. that was my thought and we've gone down that route today. I'm trying to establish if he installed it with the new dll.xml I sent or with the original one. Incidentally.. do you have that Object Flow entry in your dll.xml?

Just for info, I've run Orbx scenery with Objectflow in both FSX and P3D and never seen anything related to Orbx in the Add Ons tab. The only thing I see there is FSUIPC. DB, just the usual question you'd get from Orbx - has the latest library been run, after all other scenery installation has been completed ?
'I've no idea' is the answer to that. I didn't expect Object Flow would flag in Add-ons.. it was more a point of testing the integrity of his file and install. As it happens.. I've just run a quick test myself with both dll.xml and exe.xml. I put a blank dll.xml file in place and the Add-ons tab still displayed. A click on it showed AI Carriers (which I'd forgotten about). Renaming exe.xml and running the sim again removed the Add-ons tab.
Point is that the Add-ons tab should have displayed after he installed FSUIPC and it hasn't. He's running a fresh install of FSX Deluxe/Acc on Win8.1 which immediately puts me outside my comfort zone. Further to this.. he can't get AirTrafficFX to run. This doesn't use dll.xml or exe.xml but it's indicative that something isn't right. Last I heard was that the desktop icon for it doesn't double-click.. he has to go into Apps to start the program and unsurprisingly (I guess) it informs him that FSX isn't connected. Then we're off on the Simconnect merry-to-round which started all this a few weeks ago. He was running FSX Standard edition with SP1/SP2 back then (still on Win8.1 of course) and ATFX nor the freeware version of it wouldn't run. He had FSX installed to it's default location C:\Program Files(86)\Microsoft Games e t c and unfortunately.. he's installed Deluxe and ACC to the same, default location. I got him to run CCleaner after uninstalling the original files and this he did.. testimony to the fact that both Deluxe and ACC installed without 'apparent' issues.
I'm pretty much out of ideas now. I've suggested everything that would/should have worked with Win7 but nothing is working. Flight1 are sympathetic and will give him a refund for ATFX if he can't resolve his problems. My working knowledge of Win8.1 is zero and I've been running on the assumption that what works with Win7 will work with Win8.1 but in reality.. I've been running blindfold. Simconnect aside.. I don't know why the ATFX desktop icon isn't 'live' when it should be. Perhaps if I had his pc in front of me, I could see what he's doing which would help. He says he's doing what I'm asking but there's no guarantee.
Thanks for your input guys.. appreciated

I thought I'd have a look at this as I have a pretty vanilla setup with ORBX installed. I was going to say that I couldn't see the words "installed as Administrator" in the conversation; Windows 8 was almost as bad a Vista with the UAC as I recall (wife's laptop has it).
My dll.xml looks pretty much like the examples given but there's one little thing I might be missing........ where should I be seeing the fabled 'Add-Ons' tab in FSX?
FSX Deluxe/Accel
Win7 Pro

It's not a 'bird', it's an aeroplane or an aircraft
The Add-one tab will appear on the FSX taskbar along the top of the screen if you have either configurable dll's loaded in dll.xml that can be accessed in sim or exe's called in exe.xml. If you have neither, it won't show.
Hi Dave, only just sort of glanced at the replies to the problem but might be worth downloading the latest FtXORBXLIBS_151213.zip to see if that helps any.
Chaps, there's something in the back of my head about activation software for an add on doing this. Possibly the QW 757? Can't recall for sure, but it rings a bell.
Much as I'm no fan of ORBX.. it seems unlikely that an out of date library would cause his problems. I'll mention it though.
Ben.. I'll ask what software he's loaded since the install. He put FSUIPC on and this didn't kick the Add-ons tab into life either. He sent me the FSUIPC install log and it's found his simconnect but reading the detail as much as I could, it also reported that it had found a previous FSUIPC during the install and had replaced it with the new version. How this can have happened I don't know. He'd never heard of FSUIPC before I suggested he install it and has no idea what the program actually does.
Something somewhere isn't right and no mistakin'
