Sunday morning above the weather!

Post by DaveB »

Or in this case.. old meets new :cpu:

Setup at Culdrose.. ASN on. Weather horrible but better there than it looks up in the Midlands at present. Nowhere particular in mind for a destination.. a shakedown flight for the newly acquired Carenado B200 more than anything else. Took the JS1 up for company.

Let it do it's own thing for the best part. Checked the map to see where I was and the south eastern coast of Ireland loomed up close. Considered running up to Aldergrove but saw Valley was closer so a heading of roughly 48deg set. After landing at Valley.. I said goodbye to the JS then switched to the only G paint I've been able to find for the 200. It's a rather lovely job by hanimichal (no sshot I'm afraid). Where to now? Considered Wolverhampton but no.. decided on Duxford. Up we go.. cruise alt of around 13k. Overflying Brum when 2xdings heard.. a low followed by a higher ding. Heard it again.. then again and sussed what was about to happen..

:wall:

I'd been up for a pair of hours by this time and rather than hit the OK button.. I slowed.. dropped the gear and flaps then put down in the car park at Cosford  I love FSX but sometimes.. it really gets my back up

 Time to down-size those textures Dave.
Looks a nice model though. Still using the old ISDT model when I get the urge to fly a B200. (not very often  )

It is sad that ISDT is gone. I did not know that ISDT made B200!! ISDT is more famous for great ATR 42-, ATR72-, and of course amazing 757 panels.

Great formation shots, Dave!!!!!

Aharon

I'm sure that downsizing would help mate but in all honesty.. a flight in any model of over 2hrs tends to be in the lap of the gods if the weather is particularly busy.. even if it's not sometimes :( Good job I suppose as much longer is outside my attention span

It IS a nice model mind. Inside is typical (instrument-wise) which isn't really my cup of tea but it's 'steam enough' not to be downright boring  I like the flight model and as mentioned elsewhere.. the sounds are particularly pleasing. Sound proofing must be excellent as you hardly hear anything inside.. even with the hearing aid cranked up  Pity about Carenado's insistence at providing a 'clean' skin for painters as this restricts repaints to those willing to battle that particular technique which doesn't include me.

Btw Dave..

I looked at the G-WNCH textures for the B200 and found they were saved as DDS 32bit and weighed in at a blistering 16meg each  I've pulled em back to DDS DXT5 making them a more presentable 4meg ;)

Dave, have you tried Opus or are you happy with ASN ? I use Opus meself, but I'm always open to alternatives.

Never even looked at it mate. I've used AS for donkeys years and into FSX with ASA. I tried the weather engine with REX E+OD but was unhappy with how it worked. Reports of ASN were good so I upgraded. Downside is ASN is a pure weather engine but it fitted well with the REX textures. Can't see any reason to move for now ;)

Yep, Opus is a pure weather engine too, but it does such a good job with P3Dv3's default cloud textures that I don't feel the need to re-install Rex Essentials or Soft Clouds. Re. your pictures - great theme, as I understand the King Air replaced the Jetstream, yes ? I think I prefer the Jetstream, to be honest. ;)
