new installation FSX Gold

Post by hobby »

Can a forum member explain why, when I start my new installation of FSX Gold my Windows 7 program comes up with the following statement?

"The color has been changed to Windows 7 Basic"

What do I need to do to correct the situation?

This does not happen with my FS9 installation on the same computer.

If memory serves correctly I think it is referring to the fact that Windows Aero is disabled, i.e. that fun aspect of windows that lets you Alt & Tab thru' running programs AND have a snazzy flip depiction on screen. It's nothing to fret over. On a new install of FSX I get it to but after a while and a few s/w installs it just stops reporting the fact.

There is a small program that will stop this happening but I can't find it at the moment. Hopefully.. one of the troops will have a link handy ;)

As Alex says it's just turning off 'Aero' temporarily as FSX is not compatible with it. It will revert bact to the 'Aero' style once you exit FSX.

I have a number of programs (not all games either) that do the same thing as they cannot run if 'Aero' is running. It's nothing to worry about.

EDIT: After Dave's post it occurred to me that if you don't make use of the 'Aero' features you can disable it permanently in the Windows custom settings area and then you will never see the pop-up again.

.. or.. if you DO use Windows Aero features.. here's the fix that will stop the warning from FSX.. http://www.flightsim.ee/freeware/fsx-scheme-fix

It works fine.. I use it ;)

Where does "Aero" live please, I have no knowledge of this whatever it is! When identified I shall as suggested delete it!

Another problem my Internet Explorer is convinced that I need to have the newest version which is IE11; when I push the required button I am told that I already have IE11. So round and round we go in ever decreasing circles! Was working OK up to 19:00 hrs GMT today but now I cannot send or receive emails.

Not been a "top hole" day today.

Thanks for all the advice offered.

You can't delete "Aero", it's part of Windows! It's basically the name for the standard Windows graphical theme that uses fancy effects like transparency. You can change the Windows theme to "basic" though, which is what happens when FSX launches.

You can't delete it you just need to disable it. This page tells you how to do it easily.

You just need to select a 'Basic' theme instead of an 'Aero' based one.

Isn't there a bit of performance gain turning off aero? ...
System/Advanced Tab/Performance section .. click Settings ./Performance Options ...
i have only - show thumbnails and smooth edges , boxes ticked.
