Nigel , that does sound 'Ouch' , and I think Dave G said £90 £££££ , even more in $$$$$ . Alongside Alex I'm still using PMDG fs 9 , B744 and B736/7 . Think they were about £20 each ; but bear in mind that I used the 744 every 6 months to practice for upcoming simulator checks . Yes they are that good ! And was worth the price to me .
Used the 736/7 for fun as it is not quite like the 734s that I was on .The 'boi' used it later before his jet orientation course on a fixed base 737-700 sim . And a couple of young lads from the field have borrowed it recently to brush up jet speeds , learn glass cockpit , FMC skills , attitude / power flying all before their successful Ryanair interviews / aptitude tests , and subsequent conversion courses .
So as horses for courses , both the above were good value for money ; for fun and for learning . Maybe the manufacturers have spotted that myself and presumably others are using them not solely for fun and that they can put the prices up and still sell enough ... i.e. get away with it.
But does not bode well for hobbyists , and the retired [ like myself ].
In case all of you are not aware (not sure if England celebrates Thanksgiving), all retail flight sim websites are having between 30 and 60 percent off sale on all payware add ons!!!
TEN BUCKS instead of 45 bucks for Razamm Metroliner III
And so many fine examples!!

We don't celebrate thanksgiving but our emails don't know that
I had a look at the 1400-odd products in this sale at FSPS last night and came away with nothing.. not even the FCS Sunderland for $6 which is the cheapest I've seen it for sale

US Thanksgiving, It always strikes me as too close to Xmas for the big deal that it seems to be for them. None of my business of course but it must be a worrisome time for turkeys. Up here in the frozen north we have our TG on 12 October for those interested, and that seems a much better distance from Dec 25. As to why we even have TG I don't know and am less than interested. I don't recall the pilgrims landing here.
What you say is correct though. These models are system intensive and can be flown pretty much exactly like the real thing. For that.. you pay a premium
I see where you are coming from Dave, I have been out of the loop with new add-ons for a bit now but when you think that say for instance Capt Sim 737 not all the switches work also that is the same for the Twin Otter Extended as some don't move. Therefore if it is realism i.e. "just like the real thing" then fine but as for me all I want to do is start the engines then fly not pay too much for an FMC that I can't use (too old and too thick to learn) and having to go through 'undreds of checks.
No sorry, would not want to fly something too expensive far too complicated just for a one hour trip!!
Regards
Nigel.
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Payware Overland planes are not that complicated. Also Justflight offers Lite versions for anyone who want fantastic exterior appearance of planes but do not want too complicated panels.
I have Vivatria C-17 Cargomaster and it is not that complicated.
