Doppler sound effects in FSX

Post by ajb »

I don't know if this has been discussed before or if there is a solution to my FSX problem. I can understand why there are doppler sound effects for the aircraft when taking outside views but is there any way of stopping them when inside, flying them? It all starts well at the start of taxying but the moment I turn the aircraft I get doppler sound effects from the engines. Totally unrealistic. Didn't happen in FS9 but seems to be an "enhancement" in FSX. Is there a way of stopping the effect in cockpit/virtual cockpit mode?

I can't say I've noticed it to any extreme in FSX and I've been using it for years. Is this happening to all aircraft or specific aircraft? Are they props or jets? Do you have a multi-throttle set-up where you are using left/right throttles to make turns while taxiing?

Andy, I think I know the sound problem you speak of, but is it Doppler ? Doppler effect is the constant rise of the tone as the sound source approaches, and the corresponding constant descent of the tone after it passes by. As with a Formula One car approaching and going past you.

Is the thing you are talking about the sound seeming like it's coming down a drainpipe and following a repetitive sinusoidal wave pattern ? Aerosoft's FSX Catalina suffers from it, as does Plane Design's Lancaster and Lancastrian for FS9.

Is this not the issue with the old FS9 Doug Dawson sound gauge? DSD something or other. It was used extensively in loads of models, but didn't work properly in FSX. He updated it pretty soon after FSX was released, but the old gauge still proliferated. *-)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I think Ben may have hit the nail on the head. All the aircraft I get the problem with have that sound gauge I believe. I need to do a whole load more checking but it sounds like a solution is at hand. Thanks again
