VC10 Panel
I used to love flying the David Maltby VC10 in FS2004, however I'm now running FSX in windows 10 but for some reason it just wont display the panel, I've downloaded the Comet & panel which works fine but I just cannot get the panel for the VC10 to show; does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong or tell me how to correctly install this panel so I can double check I've done it right please, Many thanks
Re: VC10 Panel
Hi there and welcome.
Did it display in FSX before the Windows 10 install? Can you tell us the folder path that you have installed the panel and aircraft into? I'm guessing you may have used the old FS9 folders rather than the FSX ones?

Re: VC10 Panel
That could be it Ben. It's also fact that FSX will default to a VC and the VC10 doesn't have one so when it loads.. it will load without a panel until it's brought up manually (one of the F buttons.. 10, 11 or 12 I think)

Hi, Thanks for the replys, TSR2 your prognosis is exactly what I get loads up with NO cockpit until I bring it up manually, then it will show, is there a cockpit you know of that will actually display when it does load up, or is there something I can change so it will show the panel by default? Many thanks again.
Re: VC10 Panel

From memory FSX always loads the VC panel first, which of course, the VC10 doesn't have, so it looks like there's no panel. Other than manually right clicking and selecting the 2D panel, I can't remember if there is a way to make it default.
Ben.

Re: VC10 Panel

I think you have the option of choosing one or the other mate but this affects all aircraft. It's no big thing to call the VC10's 2D panel up

The standard installation of FSX means it'll make the VC cockpit view the default cockpit view. That said, as you alluded, that can be changed, so that default cockpit view is 2D.
Simply go to settings/display
Select 2D instead of 3D - done.
Now 2D will be the default cockpit view in the sim.
However, many FSX aircraft don't have 2D main panels, so be aware that the same will occur when selecting an FSX native plane with no 2D - the 2D view will be empty; or like Robert Richardson has on his planes, a giant HUD output is shown. Some FSX native planes do indeed have 2D panels though, such as Dave Garwood's Hunters, and few more that aren't coming to mind at the moment.
It's a matter of preference of how much you fly each view mode. I leave mine in 3D, but have a button on my stick that is programmed to snap to the 2D view. For airliners I prefer 2D panels for radios and such, though for the cruise, I am happy to be in 3D VC. Fighters and such I fly in 3D VC mode, and since I fly fighters more often than I do airliners, the 3D VC mode is my default.
It's a nice feature to allow preferences of each type to reflect in your primary cockpit mode. If however, you switch between both a lot, I'd recommend a button or keystroke to take you straight to 2D if 3D is your default, or vice-versa, straight to the 3D if 2D is your default.
