After a good experience using FSX Steam on some PCs I’m setting up for Air Cadet Sqns, I have decided to migrate my own setup to Steam. However before I do, a quick sanity check on how and what I’m planning to do from those on here wiser than me would be really appreciated.
I have an almost full, but fast C drive that currently holds all my FSX and scenery, and a larger but slower D drive.
Here’s the plan:
1. Make copies of existing aircraft folders, add-on scenery and effects folders
2. Leave Horizon/Playsims VFR folders c/w Treescape, intact on C drive
3. Uninstall FSX from C drive
4. Download FSX Steam to D drive
5. Copy aircraft add-on scenery and effects folders into new Steam set up
6. Enable Add on scenery and VFR scenery in Horizon Plysims folders in Scenery library
Is it this simple, and will this work?

Re: migrating to FSX Steam
It is probably easier to copy your FSX Scenery.cfg to Steam FSX, changing drive letters where appropriate.

Thanks George
Where does the scenery cfg live?
I'm guessing that if i edit it in Wordpad when I go to "add scenery" the text will all be there and I would just have to enable it?

You'd be better off editing it in Notepad rather than Wordpad as Wordpad is known for adding extra invisible characters and attributes when saving which can mess up .cfg files.233SQN wrote:I'm guessing that if i edit it in Wordpad
