Funny thing is, I reserved a copy weeks ago, but when I checked recently, I was told that:

Meanwhile, my wife gets thumped with a big blue message every time she fires up "you haven't upgraded...click here to do it..." or words to that effect.

It may just be that something on your PC needs drivers that aren't yet compatible while your wife's machine is OK.... I had quite a fiddle to get the NVIDIA drivers working even with the invite to download: the uppgrade worked fine except that it was using Windows native graphics drivers (i.e. no hardware acceleration!) That was a bit of a shock fps wise untill I realised what had happened.
