SDB Upper Heyford

Post by DaveB »

Hi Chaps..

Just a quick HU to let you know that Team SDB have released Upper Heyford for FSX/FSX:SE and P3Dv1. Asking price at PCA is the usual $10 (cheaper on Tuesday I guess) but the main reason I've flagged this is because they've positioned it to match GenX so at last.. they've produced a scenery that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb  For those who don't have GenX.. you can disable the ground tile but I've not tried this. It comes with AI models of the F111 and a couple more too. Full details here: http://www.pcaviator.com/store/product. ... featured=Y

I see a little flickering in a couple of places but otherwise.. it's a good'un. Lots of hangars and other things you'd expect and it runs ok on my i5.

Thanks SDB for the GenX consideration.. much appreciated

Duly noted MD

There is one other thing I'd like to add.. I noticed the scenery has caused a plateau around the airfield though it's not as bad as many I've seen.. not by a LONG way.

Actually.. there's something else I've remembered. There are dual PAPI's visible either side of the runway.. that is, 2 sets, one some way behind the other on either side and at each end. I can't imagine the real airfield would have had these but if so.. why? I don't think I have any other Upper Heyford scenery installed. I've looked in Addon Scenery and there's nothing obvious *-) I'll grab a screenie :)

EDIT: Here we go.
Going to EGUA sets you up here which is odd.. the only options are parking or Active Runway.

Here are the lights. Looking at them now, I see what they're up too. You need one set white and the other red to be on the correct flight path. Not common to see lights in this config..

Selecting Tower View gives you this..

Never seen this as tower view before!!

.. and finally, a bit of the plateau I mentioned..

The lights sort-of make sense now I'm awake and in SDB's defence, they only note that the scenery is designed to 'line up' with GenX. A bit of blending around the plateau would have made it look a lot better though. Can't comment on the start-up position or the tower view mind you. When I installed this.. my airline traffic was set at 40% (I don't have any airline traffic.. this is for my own stuff and military traffic). You see a few F111's parked up but none of the other stuff so I cranked it up to 100% and I've not seen any difference. It's probably my timing. These things aside.. there's plenty of content and it runs fine on my i5 :)

Shouldn't be a plateau Dave it was blended with Don Grovestines prog Terrain Sculptor ( with Don's permission).

Re. the VASI lights. That's how they were at UH. If you look on Google Earth you can still see the mountings. Our resident ARC insisted I get them right. 8)

Edit: Was going to attach the file but it appears I can't. You should have a file called EGUA_Terrain Sculptor_CVX.bgl in the scenery folder. If you haven't contact me on the Gmail address.

Yo MD :hello:

Yep.. the lighting makes sense now I'm used to it. Some smaller airports (Alderney for example) had similar but not as large. Not got the ES Scenery for ALD installed so I don't go there anymore.

I've had a look in the UH Scenery folder mate and I don't have that file. I'll drop you a PM with my email addy ;)

Cheers

Michael, it looks like Dave has the beta version which did not have the terrain blend file and also did not have runway starts which explains why Dave cannot properly start a flight on the active runway. I am sure it was fixed in the RC. I checked my RC files and they are correct so it looks like that vendor has an old file.

Thanks for that Henk. I've just installed the terrain file MD emailed and Upper Heyford is now in a hole.. not on a plateau..

:-O

Oh.. the vendor was PCAviator.com (not the Aussie cousin) ;)

Dave, are your scenery files up to date? E.g. EGUA_ADEX_SDB_CVX.bgl and EGUA_ADEX_SDB.bgl should be dated 30-July-2015.
