Yes I did.... I have Windows 10 Pro and installed it on a partition so on my FS pc I have win 7 and win 10, the only reason was to see what all this is about.... My initial thoughts after the install..... Well it look like a big mobile phone with simplistic layout fancy tiles and a head scratching time trying to find stuff and where it is hidden...

I prefer the look of 7 at this time, but I intend to load up FS9 then tx the files over from my Win 7 install and see how it goes, but and it's a big but.... I have cloned my wIN 7 HD just in case it all goes wrong.

I would say at this time I am 95% convinced I will keep Win 7 but give me a day or two to try it out and I will report back, I will only use it for good if it gets to 80% ;)

Well, I have it on 3 machines now. My personal laptop (clean install) My FS PC, in place upgrade and my work laptop (part of my work domain) - in place upgrade.
I like the new browser - no plugins or add-ons of any sort.
The start menu is the start menu, different again to the start screen, but works and seems reasonably customisable.
FSX seems to work well, I'm sure there will be something that doesn't work, but I don't have time to go looking for it.

Otherwise I'm happy enough. Windows 8.1 with a new browser and start menu. The thing I most like is that programs cant change your defaults, such as web browsers. If you want to change from edge to Chrome or Firefox, you have to choose to do it via settings. My pet hate was installing applications that prompted you to "make this the default program for opening" web pages, or email or other nonsense. Now you install the program and if you want to make it the default you go and do it.

I work on the premise that if you don't try the something new, you never will and you end up stuck in something that becomes unsupported and a malware disaster. I was happy enough with 8.1, but figured the sooner I get used to 10, the sooner I'll get proficient enough with it to do what I need to do on it. The fact is the days on the 10+ year old operating system are gone and Microsoft are moving in exactly the same way as Apple and Google with only having a few years of supported operating systems.

Hi Ben, sometimes all that glistens is not gold, I have to be honest I like some features but so far in the main its like a french car, ergonomically crap, bits everywhere and nothing flows... I am not keen on a tablet/mobile phone layout in appearance. If I was new to computers then yes its good as its uncomplicated but if you want to "fiddle" then its like finding your way round a maze.. But I decided to try before I condemn and I will. Today I will do some more and hopefully get FS on.

I wasn't having a go Tony, just pointing out that i find it less painful in the long run to take the smaller steps than have to take a giant one in the future. I found the 8.1 start menu silly, but the OS was significantly more stable than 7 and that was more important to me than the aesthetics. I prefer the start button on 10, but it's going to take a bit of getting used to.

The start menu seems buggy to me. Tried to replace the default "tiles" with useful programs. Some would add fine, others wouldn't. Some only showed up after a restart. :dunno:
Hey ho, Start10 by Stardock to the rescue.

Sorry Ben I didn't mean to sound feisty :)

Ok another few happy hours spent fiddling my life away with Wont Work 10, ok I cant get driver software for the Epson SX200 I have an issue with a PCI driver?? it tells me that but cant fix it... I pulled every hair out of my head then did the same to the dog with frustration of getting auto-play to work on Waste Of Time 10. It just refuses to auto-play despite altering the settings permissions and even offering to be very nice to old ladies and every other lie I could think of.
So I open the DVD/CD then right click set up and then select open, after numerous times and long waits and the occasional hanging PC, (which I found a useful alternative to throwing it out of the window) it finally let me load FS9!!! Ah that was just a trick a glimmer of light snapped off at the vital moment, as once loaded and update installed with no cd crack, the bloody thing just gave me a black screen.
Well not to be beaten I eventually tracked down the FS9.cfg and I set the display setting to what my monitor is, plus set it to windowed mode, I had FS9 alive again but in critical condition with poor graphics and once into full screen mode the thing went black screen when I hit the ALT button to get to the menu.
So I downloaded the latest nVidia drivers, which just happened to be the ones already installed....
So I switched it off looked for neighbours cat to kick

I have piddled about with it generally for a few days now and I must be honest, its sh1te yep not worth the trouble and if you really have nothing left in your life but spend a couple of days welded to a screen trying to get Microshaft latest abortion to run as well as your present OS, well all I can say is give up now.......
After all this messing about I can say I will keep it on the partition but disconnect the drive and use Windows 7 which I backed up onto a different drive.

For anyone out there who has a pristine working Windows XP, keep it... yes do not dare swap to this crap or a better but still inferior to XP, Windows 7.

Yes I can say I tried it and I can say with experience I have had more fun having a vestectomy performed by a man hating lesbian with a rusty spoon...

Just watched a video by Jordan King, who, though not exactly a guru, seems to know his subject. Comparing FSXSE in various permutations & loadings in W7 & W10. There doesn't seem to be a jot of difference in performance of that sim in either OS and in actual fact the loading times are substantially quicker in W7 than W10. My feelings, leave well alone unless you have a pressing need to have the latest OS. W7 will be supported for several years to come.

I've just done a straight upgrade to Win 10 and while I'm sceptical of most technology snake-oil my first impressions are very positive for FS-X. Framerates appear to have jumped from 20 or so to 30 or so (though this does seem incredible so I wonder what else is going on, maybe I had something running before I didn't need????) and smoothness has much improved. I didn't reinstall FS-X, just let the upgrade do it's job. Only problems so far have been that the upgrade didn't pick up an NVidia driver and it took a while to make that happen - just trying to install it didn't work, had to go along the "upgrade driver" path on the device properties page - and I'm still trying to sort out my homegroup (the PC is a music server for some of the music players around the house and that's not working yet). Yes the UI looks a bit odd at first but it can be "retro'ed"a bit. On the basis of what I've seen so far I'd say it was worth a go.

Sounds encouraging, John!
Funny thing is, I reserved a copy weeks ago, but when I checked recently, I was told that:

If you don't want to wait, just download it directly here...
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/softwar ... /windows10

You'll get the choice to download as an ISO and also 32bit, 64bit or both.
