Hi George,
Thanks for the info., especially the nudge about "Lists"; that's one which I'd missed, and is VERY handy!
I mentioned that I had discovered the left click then right click to delete. Trouble is, my compiled result is not what I wanted.
Thought I'd try an edit, so that the object didn't disappear. Unfortunately my result is similar to the delete.

Please check out the three shots,
Beach showing Horizon's Orange Windsock, original Horizon file but with my added red windsock and a couple of vehicles.
Your Warning signs as they should be, and I understand that you did the orange runway devices on the poles. I received close up photos from the staff at Barra, and you did well. :)
Image
Now here's me editing that windsock in ADE, from orange to red, and making it shorter:
Image
Saved the ADEX, compiled, ran FSX, and I saw this:
Oh dear, the edit changed the orange to red, and made it smaller, :) but where are all those Warning signs and your devices to go with the flashing Belishas? :( :-O
Image

I'm erring somewhere, other people can build and edit. :stupid:

Mike..

I looked at this briefly after I came from work yesterday and the same happened to me. I opened the file in ADE.. found the 2 socks (at Benbecula).. right click to delete and there they were.. gone. Opened up FSX and there they were.. BACK again 8) I don't understand ADE is the truth of the matter. It said it was saving the file as xxxx.bgl and when I looked for the file, all I could find was .ad2. I tried twice then gave up  It might be easier to make an exclude.. if you know how to make excludes that is. I don't

Mike,

ADE will not compile any objects which it doesn't know about.

If you have lost the warnings and belishas, you need to go to "Tools -> Library Object Manager". Cllick on "Add folder" and browse to the folder containing all of the Barra files. When it has finished scanning, click on "Save".

Image

You will also need to add the belisha effects. Use "File -> Import BGL" and select "Beacon-Effects.BGL".

Image

To see which libraries are used, go to "Lists - Libraries Used".

Hi George,
Thanks for your patience on this.
Excludes through IS at least, won't get rid of ADE added objects. I do have some other exclude instructions, which I've not ventured into yet.
I learnt from that earlier experience! I just copy & paste the "pre-delete/edit" adx back to the VFR GenX Airport folder to reinstate those missing items.
The consequence of this is that the orange windsock is also reinstated.
All the objects which disappear are known to ADE, because Horizon put them there initially.
My additions via my own add-on are not affected.

The query is: "Why does editing or deleting one specific scenery object cause untouched objects from the ADE file to evaporate?"

DaveB: did you Compile the amended airport?
I went through this for Benecula:
Copied & pasted EGPL to another folder.
Opened ADE & checked list of objects
Image
Selected each Windsock, edited to horrible colours, saved airport as an ADEX, compiled, keeping that as Horizon's original name:
Image
Ran FSX, here's the awful edited sock, and you can just see the second one at the top edge, 25mm in from right border. Conclusion: both edits worked.
Image

These are from 500 ft, to see whether other objects were affected.
I'm not as intimate with Benecula as I am with Barra, but I can't spot anything weird going on. Maybe Barra has some special feature that causes my problem. :dunno:

No, ADE doesn't necessarily know anything about Horizon nor objects placed by another version of ADE on another computer.

For instance, here is what I see when I load the bgl you uploaded:

Image

Image

As you can see there is a black rectangle which indicates that ADE doesn't know what the object is and "Unknown" is displayed in the "Caegory" column of the list.

Incidentally, the windsock in that file is the default white pole / orange sock.

Taken a break from ADE for today. Trying to reconcile what's on my screen with what George is showing from his, is beyond me at present.

So, I checked out my photo details of Barra, because I felt something wasn't quite right. Aha! the transmitter tower was in the wrong spot, and the red & white wind speed monitor tower wasn't there at all, nor were their protective picket fences.
They are there now. :)
