If you check my Navion the gauges don't move in the external view either. They did originally move but then I ran into problems exporting the model (too large for the exporter) and I had to transfer the external model to a different modeling program and it didn't make sense to go through all the work of re-animating all the gauges again. The external model carries the biggest load as you have all the external parts plus all the internal parts and all the associated animations too. The internal model just has the internal parts and animations plus whatever external parts you can see from the cockpit.DaveB wrote:There has to be a logical explanation why this is so but I can't put my finger on it at the moment. In addition to the above reasons a model may not have animated gauges in external view due to the timing of when the model is split into two parts to make the separate internal and external models. If the model is split before the animations are modeled/coded then the gauges probably wouldn't work in external view as it would mean having to animate everything twice. If the animations were modeled before the split then both models would have working animations.
It could also be a result of trying to keep the system load low too. Fewer animations in external view means a higher frame rate and you have to remember that for gauges every needle position has to be calculated for every frame unlike animations for things like gear or doors which only animate on command and are not continuously being monitored.
