Re: My first completed repaint

Dave, I'd completely forgotten I have PSE 2 installed in a Windows XP virtual machine on this W7 computer, so I started it up for the first time in about 4 years and checked it for an outline effect. There is one, but it gives a much thicker outline than I want ( imagine felt-tipped laundry marker as opposed to draughtsman's pencil ). I'm sure when I had PSE 2 on my old computer, it had three choices of outline - thin, medium and this one - thick. And I'm sure I installed it from a CD, now I come to think of it - some sort of '100 Essential PSE Plug Ins' CD, you know what I mean. Hmm...I wonder if its amongst the trillion magazine-cover CDs up in the loft.

You should be able to change the properties of that effect too Paul so the outline can be thinned (or thickened). I have to use PS CS2 when PSE can't open a PK or a group it contains won't open in PSE. Even PS CS2 is a pain in the butt and it's now too old to open some of the newer PK's properly (eg.. groups) :wall: I'm sure as hell not paying £400 or more for a newer version. It's a good excuse to stop painting

Well done, Paul! :welldone:
I'm glad that you persevered with this one.
If it's any indication of your skills, you should go back and finish the remaining 25% on the others.
I've said before, that I'm not a fan of fictionals, but admit that I did do an old Piper Warrior as VH-MIK, just for something to put in the experiment.
I can't venture into fancy advanced stuff, as my paint prog is a trial version of PSP4. I think I'm on day 10,000 of my 30 day trial :hide: :$

With PS CS-whatever, I use a "stroke" effect on the text layer for outlines. Don't know if that's available in PSE though. *-)

Dev One wrote:You could cheat and make each letter have two layers, the underlayer being the next size font larger....It works for me with psp7.

Keith, further to the above, I've experimented with the technique, but it doesn't seem to work. As you can see below there are two layers, but the blue G's size increases only in height and width. It leaves the inside of the smaller red G untouched, so to speak. Ive tried nudging the blue G around but to no avail. By the way, the font size difference between the two is about ten pixels.

No such luck, Dave - I can't see how you can alter the properties. Here's what I have to start with in PSE2

And here's what I get with the one and only outline option:

Not what we want, is it

Dave G - thanks very much for the pointer. That's the next method to try, and according to this guide, it can be used in any version of PSE.

It looks like the best solution if I want to keep everything in one editor. I shall return. :)

Hiya Paul :hello:

That screen doesn't look like my PSE2 screen mate. My effects all show like the two pictures/icons.. whatever *-) You're not limited to a particular font size in your PSE2 are you? Off the top of my head.. mine goes up to 72pt (an inch) but you can type a figure into the box and it will display it.

This is all very confusing :dunno:

EDIT: Not that I had any doubt at all (not even I can be that missive) my version is very definitely PSE2. I looked in Plug-ins and Outline isn't even there. I quickly knocked this up.. seconds.. using Amarillo. I had to bring the font size down a bit.. it was still on 370.12 I'd been using on the Bear Cat  The text drop-down only goes up to 72pt but as I said above.. you can type whatever size you want (within reason) into that size box and it will produce it.
It almost looks like we have the same program version but both are completely different :dunno:

Dave, I've just checked again and it's definitely PSE 2 in my screen shots ( I had to check because I also have full Photoshop 5.5, Photoshop CS2, and PSE 9 of course. ) I also have Gimp and Paint.net.

EDIT: Just deleted a stupid question.

Then here comes another one.. did you change the way it looks (presuming you can do such a thing)? *-) There is another possibility of course.. maybe the one bundled with the Canon EoS300D is somehow different :dunno: It certainly looks different *-)

Blimey.. PS5.5.. now there's a blast from the past. I had that once upon a time but went back to PSE1 :$
