Hats Up!...

Post by petermcleland »

At the U.S. Air Force Academy, it is a tradition that at the end of the Passing Out Parade, the young successful lieutenants fling their hats in the air...In this shot it was nicely timed to coincide with the passage overhead of the Thunderbirds:-

During the mid 1950s RAF Apprentices at RAF Locking used to throw their caps high in the air after the final passing out parade.

The graduates pick up the hats, find the name printed in them and start calling out the owners name.
I do believe that is the tradition.
