Great 'themed' picture post, Dave. Blimey you've got a collection, haven't you. What's that Lysander like to fly ? Its been on my 'definitely maybe' list for ages.

EDIT I assume it's the FS Add On's Lysander, btw

You saw some of the collection there Paul :poke: 8)

I'd love to say that the FSAddon Lizzie is lovely to fly but the reality is a little different. I might go as far as saying that the old Alpha model had a more manageable FD. While take-off's are easily achieved.. landings are a thing of greay mystery. This is for at least two reasons..
First.. the motor is very powerful and reacts to throttle input immediately.
Secondly.. the model will glide seemingly for miles.
Here's a thirdly.. the model has fully automatic flaps so you can hit F5 thru F8 for as long as you like and zero will happen. They automatically deploy somewhere in the indicated high 70's but getting the Lizzie into the high 70's is NOT easy.. not easy at all 8) You can then find yourself dropping short and hand out a quick dab of throttle and off she goes again.. gliding :wall: How in gods name you'd get one down in a tiny field to pick up some poor SOE agent I don't know. The agent had better have a motorbike to follow you around!! (thinks of Airplane.. flight so-and-so is now boarding at gate 5.. gate 6.. gate 7..) It bounces like a good'un too which is far from helpful. I think too much emphasis has been put on getting it out of a field and not enough getting it onto one. I know of other pilots who say the same so it's not just me. I may try the Alpha airfile on it just to see what pop's up. There are a number of repaints available though not many as you'd appreciate being a niche aircraft.

What else? The FSAddon pack comes with a pile of stuff including history and various missions for you to try. Good luck with those noting they're all done at night and how difficult it is to get the bloody thing on the deck  There is no doubting the authors enthusiasm. Reading some of the blurb.. you can imagine he ate, drank and slept the Lysander for years and is still not tired :cpu: Sadly.. enthusiasm isn't everything which is a darned shame because if it was.. this model would surely be one of the best in the world.

My advice would be to wait until it appears heavily discounted in a sale then grab a copy. At full whack.. it's a hell of a lot of money for something so off the wall (in some areas). Shuttleworth's example is included in the set which is nice. Think that's about it :cpu:

Thanks for that Dave. I always enjoy seeing Old Warden's Lysander flying, but I'm less than tempted now to get this FS Add Ons model. Rather a shame really, because everything seems fine as far as visuals are concerned. As you suggest, I might still get it come a sale - I love the old RAF stuff. By the way, here's Joe Lawford's review at Mutley's Hangar:

Talking of FS Add Ons, I don't suppose you have their Gladiator do you ? It's another model that's been in the back of my mind for a long time.

As it happens.. I DO have the Gladiator

This is by the same author as the Anson and Storch and is a lovely flyer. Also.. it comes with a Sea Gladiator (mit tail hook) and even if you've never trapped on a carrier before.. you'll trap in the Sea Glad AND walk away. It doesn't need a cat.. full flap and full throttle and it's up, up and away  I don't know how realistic this is but the effect is far more pleasing than the Lysander. I thought, when I bought the Lysander, that it was also by Simon Smieman(sp?) but it's not. That's not to say Simon's models are perfect but I know the look of them enough to ping that the Lizzie wasn't his.

This .. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/s ... D)-Repaint .. paint by JT (Bomber12th) is enough to warrant buying the Gladiator on it's own  There aren't a lot of repaints for it I'm afraid.. I wish JT would get his brushes wet again as a couple more need doing :cpu:

Inside looks rather new.. factory fresh or a modern rebuild. I'd like something slightly more worn but that's my preference. Outside.. the standard paints are ok.. JT's is outstanding of course!! When the engine is off and the brakes are on.. two rather slim maintenance bods appear. I can take or leave them. It's reasonably fast and handles well. I can't recall the flaps giving a huge amount of ballooning but they're very effective. It's fun.. plain and simple and with JT's paint.. it's gorgeous

Re the exhaust on Roy's B25.. I think it is animated a wee bit.. animated in that it flashes a bit. This is the FSX version and I can't remember........ATB

Downloaded and did a test ground run up.
The detail is astounding, eh what? Crew actually vacate their seats, don't just vanish when the doors open; "Remove before flight" tags; etc etc, but I didn't see any exhaust flame yet. *-)
Apparently, the manual is essential, and I don't want to crash it on the first flight.

Honestly Mike.. I've not looked at the manual and I've done quite a bit of flying in it recently. Have you noted that when it has engines running and the brakes on.. you get an extinguisher alongside then chop the engines and you get a refuelling rig. Lovely model for the age of it. I confess I always used the MAAM B25 in FS9 (dragged from FS8) as it had more paints available. Roy has a thing about repaints so you'll be lucky to find any for it.
These are the exhaust fx files listed in the aircraft.cfg Mike. If they're in your effects folder.. you should be seeing them.. unless of course you're running DX10. Not sure whether this would make a difference but I'm DX9 :)

Dave, thanks for the info on the Gladiator - and as you say, that repaint by John Terrell is almost a reason in itself to buy the aircraft. He's done a wonderful job on it - the soft shine on that silver doped fabric is spot on. He's caught it just right. Okay that's the Glad up to the top of the list for the next round of sales, if I can wait that long. :)
