Carenado Hawker 850XP released

Post by mgchristy »

As usual with Carenado releases, there's already a large amount of contentious chatter among certain groups regarding possible bugs. It's an undeniably pretty bird, but whether or not it's worth $49.95USD remains to be seen. This'll probably be a 'must buy' for me when it appears on the holiday sales list.

Tks for the HU Mark

Even if I were interested in this model.. I doubt I'd go for it. The price is stiff as you point out (though sale prices would be easier to swallow) and even something as tiny as the C90 HD slows this i5 down to such a degree, it's unusable so I can't see the 850XP being any less hungry.

True enough, Dave. From what I've read so far, frame rates appear to be a pretty consistent complaint with the Hawker as well. Truth be told, I'm more eager about the upcoming Flight Replicas Dominie than I ever was about the Carenado Hawker. The FR plane is probably a long way off, but at least it's more my preferred vintage than a glass-paneled 850XP.

I'll second that

In fairness to Carenado.. they include a 'Lite' version in the C90 but I've no idea what sort of resolution you have to run at to make the instruments clear. Thank goodness I bought it in a sale.. it's currently not installed. I'm sure the FR Dominie will be a LOT more fun ;)

I have the Just FLight Hawker XP800 and quite happy with that though do think that the autopilot panel could have been made like the one Carenado has done, much neater in appearance and would give a better view from the cockpit than the one Just Flight presently has.

Having said that I only paid £5 for the one I have when it was on sale at Christmas so I cannot really complain can I? 8)

Regards
Nigel.

To go with this, the Just Flight F27 is now released. Just about to try it.

It's a fiver off at £19.99 until Monday. Were I still an active pilot on the VA.. I'd snap it up but I'm not so I won't  . Maybe in a weak moment during a flash sale but for now.. my plastic is very safe ;)

Most of the reasoned opinions on it seem to be a "wait for the first SP or two" variety. I gather this from what I've read -

1) The people complaining about FPS issues on this are the same ones complaining about FPS issues on all previous Carenado releases with similar levels of detail and are due to their computer, not the plane.
2) The Flight Dynamics are pretty spot on to the real books and at least 2 real pilots who've flown it say it handles like the real thing.
3) They did get some of the more in depth and "obscure" features of the Hawker working like the "lift dump" feature of the flaps and it works per the real one.
4) The FMS is an improvement over the one in the Citation II, but still has lots of room for improvement.
5) The Glass Cockpit itself appears to be fairly well done with no major graphical or operational complaints.
