Ah, that makes things a bit clearer. Looking at the B-29, it seems you have the main package and the DLC package, both for Steam FSX.

The main package...

http://www.fspilotshop.com/virtavia-sup ... 65jjdqaki4

... is the basic external model with VC and one paint scheme.

The DLC ( for which you must have the main package as above )...

http://www.fspilotshop.com/virtavia-sup ... 65jjdqaki4

...is two more external models and a few more paint schemes.

So now we know what 'Main' and 'DLC' is. In this case, to get all the Virtavia B-29 that I'd bought already at the Flightsim Store, I'd pay a combined total of $32, which I don't think is very much different to what I paid FSS. I wouldn't have thought it was worth splitting it into two packages, though. The differences between the three external models are minor - four-gun front upper turret - two-gun front upper turret - no gun turrets & sighting blisters at all - so its not as if you're getting anything major by buying the DLC. And I really don't think additional liveries ever warrant being a separate purchase, as there are always talented painters out there who do repaints for free.

Still, if Virtavia thinks splitting it into two will help sales, who am I to argue.

Just looking at that page further, I see the normal B-36 download is on sale for $ 12.50, which includes the B and H models. However, the B-36 Steam 'main edition' ( which only has the H-model ) is $18 and the B-36 Steam DLC ( which gives you the additional B-model and some liveries ) is $6.00. So the Steam purchaser has to fork out $24 in order to get the same product that is on sale outside Steam for $12.50 !! :-O

And it's not even as if that ancient B-36 model is anything like current payware quality. Dear oh dear... 8)

Yes mate.. only the non-Steam versions are in the sale. I guess this is because the Steam versions are comparatively new. Same happened with the Lincoln at Christmas.. everything BUT the Lincoln was in the sale.
You make a good point about Main and DLC packs. It seems very much like Virtavia are eeking every last cent out of these old girls.. many of which aren't worth the 'sale' price :|

I bought the Thud last week.. in the sale but before it was widely publicised. It's a pretty good model I have to say and well worth the sale price. Kicking around for something else.. I bought the F5 Tiger II a few days later. Flew it once and binned it. A complete waste of £10 :wall: Undeterred.. I dived in and bought the Demon last night.. on sale for under $6 (£3+ in real money). Completely different and worth £3 :) A couple of others caught my eye but they're portovers so I've let them go. Every time Virtavia has a sale, I look at the Globemaster but I know I'd never fly it or fly it once. If it ever appears in a PCA.au flash sale for £12AUZ.. I'll think about it again :lol:

Yes, the Thud is a favourite of mine, though the night VC textures do little for your night vision. I wonder if they can be dimmed down a bit. Its a good model though. I'll keep the Demon in mind too. :)

The more I think about this Steam and DLC pairing, the more I'm convinced that Phil is planning to drop the old / existing / combined packages from availability before much longer. So much so that I expect this may well be the last sale for these packages - and with the lower prices for the two parts of the new pairings, it's just possible that this will be the last sale of Virtavia products. Either that, or the reductions in future will be rather less than 50%.

:hide:

And has anyone noticed that none of these packages are available from Steam / Valve yet - only from the three Virtavia partners (as in not including PC Aviator) ...

:poke:

The one good thing about the new pairings is that a user can buy into a particular aircraft at a lower price, and test it out before deciding whether to invest in the DLC extras ...

:cheers:

Not flown it at night and not likely to :lol:

Have a look in the panel.cfg near the bottom to this entry:

[Color]
Day=255,255,255
Night=120,35,0
Luminous=237,98,44

Been a long time since I've fiddled with night lighting but I seem to remember the Luminous= line denotes the colour and brightness of any night lighting. :) Could be wrong though.. it HAS been a long time :worried:

Blimey, I didn't know about that. Thanks Dave, I'll definitely give it a try once I've reinstalled the Thud into P3Dv2.5. Still in the long process of add-ons with that. :cheers:

Rohan, good point about being able to try things out before buying the rest. :)

Paul..

Just got in from work and read your reply. The Luminous line equates to the brightness of the gauges.. didn't make that clear but I presume that's what you mean :)

Yep, that's what I mean - everything is too bright, so I'll give it a try when I get the Thud put back in into P3D. :)

Rgr that mate :thumbsup:

Oh.. re the Demon. As nice as it is (surprisingly so PLUS it's cheaper than cheap).. I noticed I lose the glass on the canopy on at least one of the models and I've no idea what's causing it. It's supposed to be FSX native :-O AND.. another thing. While admiring my handy-work this evening.. I notice the main gear struts come up through the wings when the gear is in motion :worried: How the heck did that get past the beta team :dunno: Still.. if you can put up with that.. it's still ok. The glass is a bit of a pisser though and why it goes from the canopy and not the windshield and sides will remain a mystery until some clever bloke like DG can tell me why :lol:

Oh.. and I just picked up the Scorpion and Black Shark for good measure :lol: H E L P.. I need Colin and his hammer of justice! :lol:
