FS9 Problem

Post by Tomliner »

Hi gents.Yes I'm still using FS9 although I haven't used it for a few days.I'll also admit I'm still on XP although I still receive their monthly updates.I'm not sure if any of that's relevant but I earlier I tried to use FS9 only to see the following messages:-
1) LevelD Simulation Module Bad Licence for B767-300 FS2004 will now quit.
When clicking OK the next message appears :-
2) Error FS9 Flight simulation was unable to load some aircraft or software. You can continue using Flight Simulation but this aircraft or software will be disabled File : PMDGOptions.dll

Except that I can't continue because FS hasn't loaded.

The PMDGOptions .DLL happens also resides in the Modules folder.

Since last using FS a week ago there were monthly update from MS and Norton also quarantined TROJAN.GEN.2.
Not sure if any of that is relevant.
If the fixes a reinstall then I'm not sure that I can really be bothered with all the hassle and I will have to consider if this is the end of the road for both FS and for this pc.

The last restore point that I set was Feb 18th.Could it be worth going back to that?

I'll be grateful for any suggestions gents. *-) EricT

Hi Eric

Before thinking about a full re-install of FS9, you could try uninstalling the offending aircraft (LevelD 767, I assume but don't know why a PMDG file would be associated with this). Maybe also move the PMDGOptions.DLL file to another folder outside of FS9, if it isn't removed with the 767 uninstall. Then see if FS9 will run. If it does, re-install the 767 and again see if FS9 will run. If it does, run a scan with Norton and see if it picks up anything (false positive ?).
I don't know why you are still getting updates for WinXP - I thought all support had finished, other than in cases where governments or businesses are paying Microsoft for the service.

Sorry this isn't much help, but it may track down what is causing the problem.

Regards

Kevin

I had exactly the same problem. My virus scanner decided to bin a few important FS9 files. I had to force my virus software to leave FS alone :wall:

My Level D 767 and PMDG 737 had quite a few addon liveries added. What i did was CUT both aircraft to a safe folder on my desktop.... Re-install both base packages of the level d and pmdg 737. Test FS was working. Then bin the reinstalls and put my originals back as was. Everything works perfect without the headache of reinstalling all liveries

Hi Kevin.I've just looked on the LevelD forum and see that two others have posted exactly the same problem.I have posted some info and am waiting for a reply.Interestingly while I was looking for some info,Norton popped up and quarantined a LevelD767 inc.exe file. Twice today it's also quarantined Trojan.Gen.2 .I'll wait for a response from LevelD support before doing anything.
Re MS updates I get them as before after the second Tuesday of each month.Strange! Thanks EricT :)

AV's are often doing this Eric. Malwarebytes didn't like a particular dll associated with the QW146 so quarantined it. The end result was the gauges didn't work and the landing gear didn't show! I was able to get MWB to see it as 'safe' and told it not to check it again

Thanks for the replies gents.i assume that I'll have to restore the LevelD file from Norton and then do as Gary did.My LevelD767 and PMDG are both on DVDs and weren't downloads.I'll have a look at Norton to stop it seeing FS,although it's never given me any trouble before. :) EricT

Do you get updates for XP or just the malicious software removal tool? I still use XP and get that update monthly and ocassionly some Office updates on patch Tuesday. No pure operating system updates though.

This problem seemed to be that NIS had quarantined flt1chk4.dll as a Trojan. On the LevelD forum it appears that I wasn't the only one with this problem.I restored this file as well as another LevelD file and then stopped NIS looking at the flt1chk4 file and all now seem to be ok.
NIS had also quarantined a file called a0149117.dll at around about the same time yesterday also as the same Trojan.I'm not sure what this file is so I've left it quarantined for now and It can be restored later if it turns out to be required. I've looked online for this file but haven't found anything about it yet.
Nigel you are correct regarding the MS updates and patches. :) EricT
ps Gary , I didn't need to do the same as you had to.
