Well Garry you are entitled to your opinion but the tailplane is NOT far more noticeable than the wrong exhaust. You need to look at the relatively simple exhaust pipe on the early Doves and compare it to the damn great ejector fairing of the Dove 8. Only the sole Dove 7XC G-AJGT of Bristol Siddeley had the MK8 exhaust although several Devons were later fitted with them as you know!
Dave, in thinking about it you are right, I will not buy the model unless both issues are fixed. Garry is right about the lack of research though. I would have thought they would have learnt from the Chipmunk scenario.

OK guys, Bazzar has posted on SOH that he is making changes to the Dove/Devon so hopefully the issues mentioned will be tackled!
'I have already taken on board some constructive comment on the Dove/Devon and changes and additions are already under way.'
I don't know if it's me but I had a look at the top of the fin/rudder and it seems a bit too pointed, then again it could just be me!

The fin is a difficult shape to determine unless seen straight on. Any angle makes it look rather more pointy than it actually is. Here's a couple I took at the DHM years ago of G-AREA's fin for Derek's model. It's an '8' of course..

And here's one of the 8's exhaust..

That's quite a lump faired up isn't it!!

Just had a look at the model and the cockpit looks extremely good but one thing I have noticed is that with the hard top version (which the RAF had) including the Dove from Air Atlantique, there is no overhead panel!! *-) I always thought nearly all the Doves in RAF Service had the overheads panels. Just my personal thoughts on this however, I still think that Dereks' model is my favourite even though it still only has the 2D cockpit.

I think all the Devons the RAF had were standard all clear canopies as delivered. Later they were modified to Dove 8 standard which included the Heron 2 canopy. Would that have had an overhead that was not there before?

Hi Garry, :hello: As far as I can remember someone here in the past wrote that the overhead was introduced onto the Doves that operated in the Middle East, this was because of the heat and the clear canopies just fried the crews!! :worried: Hence the introduction of the overheads.

Thanks for posting those pictures Dave, now just wonder whether now whether they will give the option of an overhead as per the Air Atlantique Dove. :hide:

I doubt it

I have to admit I've never been a huge fan of AH. They seem to have upped their game a bit since developing for JF and that can only be a good thing. It will be nice to have an FSX native Dove/Devon to go with the Flight Replicas Heron. I just hope it's worth the wait ;)
