Plane Design Lanc & Lancastrian in P3DV2.4

Post by Paul K »

Hi chaps,

The title of the thread says it all. Has anyone got either of these models to work in P3DV2.4 ? They appear in the vehicle selection menu no problem, but when I click on any one of them, the whole simulator crashes. I have a feeling its something simple. I know they are FS9 models, but they worked okay in FSX, and I'd like to sort out where the problem is with P3DV2.

Any help gratefully received. :)

It could be just an incompatible gauge, but some old FS9 models will crash P3d regardless. Del's Dove will crash it as well, although the Heron is fine. :dunno:

[edit] scratch that last comment, the Dove does work

Dave G, is there any way of finding out which gauge might be causing the problem ? :)

I'd start by substituting the whole panel for a known working one, even if it's just the default C172. If the model then loads, it's definitely a gauge issue. Most gauge problems I've found seem to be sound related, i.e. ones that control custom sound effects. Don't know if the Lancs have one of those or not. Then it's trial and error I'm afraid. Comment out all the gauges in the panel.cfg and add them back one by one until it crashes.

Great, thanks for that, Dave. I think it would be worth the effort to track down the problem, given that I still love the PD Lancastrian. :)

Sometimes it can be quicker to do things by halves...comment out half the gauges first. If the problem disappears, put half of them back in, and so on. If it is still there, comment out half the remainder. Narrows things down very quickly.

Yep, that's the way I shall do it, thanks Mike. By the way, PD's Spitfire has the same effect when trying to load it in P3DV2.4. It crashes the sim in exactly the same manner.
