Airport grass colour problem

Post by ajb »

I'm having real problems with certain airports in Scotland now that we are into the autumn season. The whole of the grassy areas of those airports is showing as a sand colour not green/dull green. This only seems to affect certain Scotflight airports, Inverness in particular, and SIM720 Inverness. Many more Scotflight airports are affected though. I have spent hours trying to find the culprits to no avail. Any ideas? Seems that Iain at Scotflight has no idea but suggests setting all flights in summer!

Hi Andy :)

If it's any consolation, I've just looked at Inverness (Scotflight v2.1 Photo) and see exactly the same. The colour matches the underlying default for Scotland (shades of brown) with very little green (if any) to be seen anywhere. Strangely, a long hedgerow and trees within the airport scenery are still green with everything outside it leafless 8) Not the most realistic effect but neither is the default for Scotland I'm afraid :(

Yes, these seaonal changes are a nuisance. In reality autum looks much like summer when your flying as does winter without snow and spring. At altitude there is not the differences you see on the ground and in anycase grass doesn't go brown in the Autumn

I usually just change it back to summer :wasntme:

Hi Dave/Garry,

Hmm! As real as it gets. Been out for a walk this afternoon and up here the ground varies between orange/rust and brown. Lots of dull green to be seen and not a hint of sandy colours. Strangely, Stornoway airport, my local, shows the airfield colours as a dull green - realistic, so why won't Inverness? Whilst I can easily get on with the vagaries of autogen I just cannot enjoy desert textures in Scotland

Hi Andy :hello:

These 'as real as it gets' textures may not be restricted to Scotland or FSX for that matter. I've a feeling FS9 was as bad (though better than FS8). I've only flown photo scenery for years and this as you'll know, is not seasonal and until the advent of GenX vol4 onward, didn't cover Scotland. I only have vol4 installed for 'up there' and it's pretty wild in summer  A consequence of the photo scenery is that I usually have my scenery setup for summer anyway as seasonal variations don't happen.. unless you move to ES areas, Scotland or abroad so I'm not used to seeing these sh1tty colours. If you have other airports up there that are showing a green tile.. it may be that they only came with one tile so seasonal variations will not affect them.

What Garry said earlier is pretty much bang on. If you were to see brown grass at any time.. it would be in summer when it's been burned by the sun. This year.. that didn't happen.. we've had enough rain to keep the place nice and green 8) I've always had an issue with M$F$ seasonal variations anyway. While they make a change.. I don't think they're close to being accurate ;)
