I've not tried a trap in it yet. Although it did do carrier landing tests, the Navy only had 2 (I think) and the type wasn't adopted. I'll give it a go though
Wondered about the tail hook ... Anyone trapped with it yet ? If so , did it pull the tail off ? An FAA Meatbox was news to me , and I wondered if with only 2 in the fleet there might have been problems . I guess Capt ''Winkle'' Brown is the person who would know ; or was the Vampire's performance so much better ?
From what I understand, the RN took 2 purely for evaluation and trials purposes. They were pretty much standard Mk3's with strengthened gear and short nacelles housing Derwent V's. Whether the RN considered having them in a fleet role, I honestly couldn't say. I've found nothing to suggest this was ever the case. They had what would become the Sea Venom on their books from '51 though it didn't actually get rolled out until '54.. by which time it had all the refinements necessary (a canopy that would blow underwater and folding wings being primary among them). By this time, the Meatbox was fast becoming obsolete
