Re: Help Installing HMS Fearless for AiCarriers2
Yes.. I thought it was odd a thread should turn up here
I tried re-jigging another formation replacing US ships with Brit ones.. half the fleet sped ahead (Falmouth entombed inside Victorious!!!) and my old faithful's, Fearless, Glamorgan and Gold Rover were left for dust. A quick check in the sim.cfgs shows the old girls have a realistic top-end and all the new stuff lists 50kts (in their dreams)
The new ships don't do 50kts btw.. they were sitting at around 23-25kts. The older ladies were chugging along at around 15kts. I'm unsure what to do here (as well as being unsure why there are 2 lots of cfg files). If I change the speeds in the sim.cfgs.. it may have a detrimental effect on the ship track formations I already have running.
Also.. I changed like for like in the nicked AIC formation and what came out wasn't as I expected. That said, I didn't expect to see Victorious plough through Glamorgan either so it was all a bit of a mess
I'm sure that by changing the speeds in the sim.cfg's, that will be sorted. Not sure why Falmouth was inside Victorious mind you
Better get the rescue helicopters from Culdrose to alert 5

Dave,
The AICarriers config comes with the program and is essentially the default ship set. You could just add formations to the end of that. Alternatively you can add separate config files for each ship you add to the conf. d folder and it'll pick them up from there. Makes it easier to add new ships without messing things up.

I would assume that when AIcarriers was first written it read everything from the aicarriers.cfg, then later versions added the ability to read separate cfg files to make adding ships easier, but retained the original cfg also
Just guessing mind you.

Oddly the speeds in the sim.cfg are in MPH not knots, I think because they're ground vehicles.

Re: Help Installing HMS Fearless for AiCarriers2
OK.. I think I'm getting there
Conf.d being an evolution of the original kinda makes sense though the duplication (if that's what it is.. I've not studied either that closely but the ships in one seem to be there or thereabouts the same in the other) doesn't. I can understand using conf.d to add separate ships above and beyond the default but there are groups of ships in both files. Looking again at the cvn.id.. I guess they're all (the carriers) variations on the theme with default cruisers and destroyers
I dunno
Anyhoo.. what I do know is that I managed to get Falmouth out of harms way and after making all the speed entries 50 (noted it's mph rather than knots Skip).. I got this..

It's much easier to move stuff around when you know exactly what a ship is rather than guessing at which destroyer.01 is the one you want. It also makes knowing what the reference numbers mean in the conf.d/aicarriers.cfg. I know it's not rocket science but I'm no scientist
Thanks for your input guys.. I'll mark the thread I started at FS null and void.. unless you've already replied to it there Skip
Can this thread go back to sleep for another 3 years I wonder?

Re: Help Installing HMS Fearless for AiCarriers2
Being ever OT, Dave, that Wessex does look very nice. I have a model of one on my shelf (HAS 3 from HMS Antrim, 737NAS - can also be finished as a Falklands paint job) - hope it looks as nice as that when it's done
For someone who's never been a Navy type, I have an awful lot of maritime aircraft models!

Re: Help Installing HMS Fearless for AiCarriers2
Hmm.. there must be something in that. Being a Navy type.. none of my models have any Navy connection
I must get around to turning that Wessex into HMS Glamorgan flight. I did that one because I was on Norfolk and we have no Norfolk. We have Glamorgan but no Glamorgan flight helicopter
That default tanker is a bit poop too. A nice new 'O' class (Olna, Olmeda, Olwen) or one of the 'Tide' class that went before it would tidy things up nicely. Add a decent stores/armament ship (Stromness, Tarbatness e t c) and we'd be there or thereabouts
