DCS Huey, FC3 and F-15C 1 day sale on steam

Post by J0hn »

If you use that devils-own gaming system called "Steam", you may be interested to know that the DCS World modules are up for a "One day sale" at prices ranging from £3.49 to £23.99

I happened across it by accident, as I hadn't seen it advertised anywhere else. Which is about how these 'sales' usually go.

Anyway - outstanding value for most of those modules. Don't know when their "Day" ends, though :dunno:

It was posted just 3 hours ago, though - so I'm guessing you'll have most of tomorrow :)

JOhn I have DCS World and Flaming Cliffs 3 and it says on Steam that "DCS World is required on Steam" ????

Mine are purchased direct from DCS does that mean I'm stuffed with this sale ? Or can I download the module and add it myself to DCS World ?

I don't think so, Tony.

There's been some changes recently, to do with buying on one and using on the other. Used to be, it didn't matter where you got your code from, you could use it either on Steam or the DCS version - but now I don't know.

Sorry - I'll look for some info on the ED forum.

Ah - yes. You're in luck:

You can buy on steam and use on non-steam, but not t'other way round (due to Valve's wishes, not DCS).

Tomorrow I finally get my MiG-21bis! over 2 years late, but better late than never! Got my code in the mail today... going to take me weeks, nee months, to learn that thing! :agree:

Are you sure it makes that a condition of sale?

Tell you what - I'll have a look (and try not to accidentally buy it)

Hmm, don't seem to have that issue myself. It's crazy, too, as DCSW is actually free. Hmmm.

I'm mystified - I bought one of my modules in a steam sale and had no such issues.

You could try two things:

1st: Get DCS World from Steam, but don't don't download it - at least not all of it (pause the download). Then go and buy the modules you want, taking note of their codes.

2nd: You could try registering DCS World as a non-steam game in your games library.

That's all I can think of. Like I said - had no issues myself, in their last sale, and I'm also not seeing anything to stop me buying the Huey now. :dunno:

PS - just found from a forum that option 1 above, is how to do it now ;)

also found this:
can confirm that you need only to use the CD Keys from the Steam Library once you purchase them from Steam.
Install DCS World on Steam then get the CD Keys from whatever Modules you choose, then install the DCS Website Downloads for each and install via the Multiplayer cue.
I did this for the Combined Arms, UH-1 Huey, and the P-51 today thanks to this great sale, and installed them as above so there's no need to run Steam at all to enjoy them.
Of course, having to download DCS World, if that's what you have to do, would be not good, if you have a slow internet connection (or limits). But might be worth it for the sale price of the modules, to then put them into your non-steam DCSW.

I think Steam are playing silly buggers (what's new?).

JOhn I wonder if its because I have a long standing steam account with loads of FPS shooters ? Maybe its looking to my folders ? Just posted on ED Forums....will await reply.

Sick and tired of Steam but still love my BF3 and 4 and COD :((

Ah, I'm addicted to 7 Days To Die alpha at the moment. Spent hours on it, every day (in a group of two of us - why aye, man - me and a geordie, like!) and posting videos to my YT channel.

No idea why - not the sort of thing I go for at all.

I dislike steam intensely, too. I originally reinstalled it to play ArmA 3, though I wasn't happy about it. As it turned out, I hardly play it - graphics etc are nice enough but the control is pretty dire, so I'm playing ArmA 2 still. The really silly thing with that is that I also have to play that on steam now - due to Gamespy folding and no multiplayer in non-steam!

It's a cruel world!

BTW - your shooter thing won't have anything to do with it, Tony.
