Re: Win7 latest updates

Post by DaveB »

I scanned the Microsoft sites yesterday to see if there were any reported issues with the September updates on Win7 and it seems like there are ALWAYS problems with updates on Win7.. and the other versions too 8)

I started the PC this morning and to my horror, it ran CHKDSK again finding 970 un-indexed files :-O I'm not sure if this is a consequence of yesterdays update and uninstallation of the KB security fixes or more of the creeping death that seems to be enveloping this pc. It seems to be running fine but my faith in it is going :(

I won't let them update anything automatically. I have updates set to "Notify me when available" and when they do that, I go in and reject the IE9 security updates. I haven't used IE since it became IE7, but their sniffer bot is evidently not able to detect that. I think they are up to IE10 or IE11 now, but I am just not interested. I use PaleMoon as my browser.
MS tried to sneak in IE8 'under the radar' as an update, when it was actually a fresh install - one of many reasons why I just can't trust them.

I think Win8 is actually up to IE12 now Mike :-O

I have Win7 notify me of updates and have only 'Important' ticked. There are 90-odd others (recommended) but they never seem to apply to me so I don't bother. I've always been up to date with Important updates and generally accept them without even noting the content.. if they're important.. I have them. I've hidden the ones I uninstalled yesterday so I won't be reminded and they won't sneak in through the back door as I shut windows down. I wish I could determine exactly which one was causing the issue but this would require me installing each one in turn until I lost ISTor and IE functionality. At the moment.. I CBA :|
