Milviz or Virtavia F86 Sabre?

Hi Chaps..

It's time to ask for your opinion again. Been toying with the idea of getting a Sabre for a while and two are attracting my attentions at the moment.. those from Milviz and Virtavia. Freeware is very slim on the ground and only, as far as I can tell, for FS9 so the choices are few. The Milviz model looks very good and is a bit more expensive than the older FS9/FSX Virtavia model. Virtavia/Alpha.. I have a LOT of experience with. Milviz.. less so. The only fixed wing model of theirs I have is the Stuka (which is very nice).. the others are collaborations with Nemeth and are, of course, helicopters.

So.. your opinions much appreciated

Difficult one.

Of course, the best simulated Sabre to have just now is the DCS World one! But for FSX?

I'm not sure if it affects all the new MilViz stuff or just the latest, but bear in mind that it installs some other GUI rubbish at the same time as the aircraft. I can't remember what said GUI does, exactly, but I hate such things. Having said that, their products that I have, are all pretty good.

Although Alphasim/Virtavia are generally very easy to fly, I've had no problems flying the MilViz aircraft - even the ones you are supposed to go through complete checklists with, if you start it up on the runway, everything is already up and running, and off you go - so no worries!

Apart from that, I don't know what to say. What are you looking for in your Sabre?

Milviz Sabre, hands down.

I have both. The Virtavia for FS9 and the Milviz for FSX.

I prefer models that allow you to add/remove loadings such as external fuel tanks. Granted, the Virtavia model is easy to fly but once you practice the cold start for the Milviz model its easy.

The Milviz model as models other systems quite well such as defrosting the canopy and damage if you overspeed. Keeps one honest IMHO.

BTW - tons of repaints for both.

The Milviz Sabre is very good, and a blast to fly, although I expect it's trickier to handle than the Virtavia one (don't have that, but just guessing!) It's not a Ctrl-E jobbie though it is quite easy to startup.

What am I looking for in my Sabre JD.. a difficult one. I certainly don't want to spend a week of ground school learning how to run the systems but I don't want it to fly like a piece of sh1te either. I have two RAZBAM models and I dislike both. They're both good on FR's but I find the flight models atrocious. Won't be going there again! Their (MV) Stuka is nice.. very nice and the Milviz/Nemeth models equally so. Some blame for deficiencies in the MV/ND collaborations was pointed at Milviz but I'm pretty sure the coding on these was done by ND. You tend to know what to expect with Virtavia.. I'm still not sure about Milviz

The freeware one (Section F8) works very well in FSX Dave.

I tried the SectionF8 model on my old FSX install Larry and it didn't work very well for me I'm afraid Certainly a nice model for FS9 mind you. Can't remember exactly what the problem was I had with it in 'X' but it may well have caused lock-ups/CTDs. I know there were/are various FSX patches out for it.. glass e t c and I'm sure I had those in place.
Never mind.. I've taken the plunge and ordered the MilViz model.. the one without the F1 wrapper as it was $5 cheaper You have to wait for an email link mind you but as I'm off to bed now, it can wait

Ugh! Don't talk to me of F1 wrappers!

I was prevented from using Ultimate Traffic 2 for over a year because of their crappy wrapper (ha! - Crappy Wrappy - that's about right! ) and I will never buy another product from their online shop.

Even though I had the right password (I keep a little black book for the hundreds I have used for all the different sites) it just kept - and keeps - spitting it out. Their so-called recovery system is a mess and they have never responded to resultant support requests.

On the rare occasion it has accepted the password (having spat it out half a dozen times first) it then tells me that my activations have expired, but as yet I've been completely unable to get the online system to reactivate it.

Money for nothing.

The worst thing is that I've had to go back to using Traffic 2005 for FSX and TrafficX for P3D.

Well JD.. no hassle with the F1 wrapper, the cheaper (none 30day no quibble money back) version was waiting for me when I got up this morning and very happy I am with it too. Happier still that I can start it

Here are a handful of shots of the Golden Apple example oft seen at Duxford. It's an 'A' (the only flying 'A' in the world as far as I know) and the model is an 'F' but that doesn't matter..





The weather at my default Culdrose was disappointing to say the least and I had to fly quite high to get above it.

Not only are the paints quite exceptional for it, the model is great and as DG said.. it's a blast to fly It's not particularly heavy on FR's either so I may try the odd formation with AirTrafficFX. I put JY's Duxford AI model in and it didn't cut the mustard (though of course they're not designed to be closely scrutinised) The power delivery is wild as you'd expect for something of this age. Open the taps up full and absolutely nothing happens for some time when you're starting your takeoff roll Similarly.. you have to make sure you're setup correctly when you commit to landing as failure to do so will have you falling off the flaps and sinking quickly to the ground.. spool-up time of the engine being too long to save your butt! Noticed the windows fog up too but was waiting for this. The same happens on the MV/ND AW109 should you venture too high and not have ECS switched in Attention to detail is very good.. little touches like the pilot bending his head forward when the canopy slides back or forward. That amused me no end

All in all.. very happy with it and thanks for your recommendations
