Capt Sim B777

Post by J0hn »

Funny news from Capt Sim.

They have released a Boeing 777 for Prepar3D. They have also released an update for the FSX Boeing 777 to v1.4

http://www.captainsim.com/

They are stating that the P3D version won't work in FSX and vice-versa.

Hmmm. *-)

Call me cynical, but could it possibly be that the 1.4 update for the FSX version ensures it won't install to P3D? I say that because I have the 1.3 of their B777 and it works just great in P3D!

Splitting the product into an FSX and a separate P3D version seems a little low to me. I've always stood up for Capt Sim in the past, but I think they just overstepped the mark. Of course, they could say it's a DX thing - but I don't believe it. Then again, maybe it's a licensing thing - but if they are the same product, what would be the point?

More and more devs are doing this. I think generally it's "a good thing". If LM break some backward compatibility with FSX models in a future update, the likes of Captain Sim, A2A etc have no requirement to update their FSX models, but the P3d native models should get updated as needed. I just hope they don't come out with the "LM broke it, they can fix it in the next patch" excuse. 8)

That's a good point - I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

Apparently now the 777 update is done, we can expect a Service Pack for the 737-200 they say, well that's the rumour on the 732 forum.

Not sure what my wish list would be, but I think they'll look at the little performance calculator and EPR settings which isn't complete and like to be left for several eons between its buttons being pressed if you don't want a CTD.

I quite like their 737, it's nice to fly and with the mods that the CS community have produced it performs as the book says.

So, the waiting begins... *-)

Well, I won't be upgrading to 1.4 then! However the P3D v2.2 exporter outputs models that don't display in FSX so it may well not just be the installer.

The other thing to remember is licensing. It may be possible for a developer to license a product for FSX and have to do it differently for P3D. *-)

I received an email just now, which may provide a bit more clarity:
Greetings,

We are pleased to announce the release of 1011 Captain Freighter Expansion Model.
One installation file for FSX and Prepar3D! Buy once - use in FSX, Prepar3D or both (note: 1011 Base pack required)
http://www.captainsim.com/products/l011 ... nsion.html
Actually, maybe it doesn't! :dunno:

Perhaps they have listened to customer's concerns or maybe some other reason that it's a combined package, where the B777 is two separate ones. Or licensing. Again.
