Interesting development. I can't really see how they can do much with FSX though, unless they can also license some of the enhancements LM have made with P3D. The Flight product probably has more potential, and this should be good news for Peter as I believe Steam has a Mac client?

Ben.

Re: FSX moving to Steam
Couple things to note - Dovetail Games is formerly known as Kuju, the guys who built Microsoft Train Simulator (and are publishing Rail Simulator 2014), so there's an existing working relationship. Several of the ex-ACES MSTS/MSFS team now work for Dovetail and I suspect several more have or will be joining the FS development team soon as it's been hinted on in several of their Engine Driver blog posts.
Also, from their Facebook post, they are planing further development, so at minimum, I hope they at least fully port into DX10 (which they were helping ACES with way back) and fully deploy multi-core support if not also adding 64-bit compatibility. From there, the sky's the limit. I suspect they wouldn't have licensed the technology and code if they didn't plan on serious future development like they did with the MSTS code. They're in the process of porting Rail Sim over to the Unreal engine, so hopefully they'll be able to make a similar move with FS and bring the graphics and physics capabilities out of the patched up 1980's core that FSX is saddled with.

If we can run it off-line, OK.
I have an aversion to on-line, but I'll try to keep an open mind.

Don't worry. It could turn out to be vapour-ware.Vancouver wrote:"FSX moving to Steam" - but my PC runs on electric
