A simple query with what I hope is a simple answer When I turn the Win7 PC on and it gets to the 'login' screen.. it shows a power off icon in the bottom RH corner. I dunno about you but this seems a ridiculous place to have it having just turned the PC on What would be more useful is if this icon was on the 'wake up' login screen as sometimes, you leave the pc to go and do something.. it falls into standby.. and you leave it until say, the end of the day. You then have to login to turn the pc off which defeats the object. If the power off icon were on that page.. you could turn the PC off without having to login to do it
OK.. blurb done. Is it possible to get that power off icon onto the wakeup login screen?
Dave, No setting I've ever seen gives the option.
My guess to why that is?
If a doc or some other work was left open, and the user has left the PC idle long enough for the PC to sleep or standby or hibernate,
They would loose any changes they've made because the PC can't save and close work when it's "not conscious".
Although, Press and holding the power button has been used to force a PC down when they won't come out off standby or hibernate.
I have often found it handy after I clicked Restart when I really wanted Shut Down ...you can kill it as soon as the button appears, without having to go through the whole startup rigmarole, just so you can shut it down again.

I don't follow Mike. When the PC has gone to sleep and I wake it with the space bar.. I don't recall seeing a restart option I'll have to go and have a look now
EDIT: No.. there are only 2 options.. Ease of Access and Switch User. Have I missed something here??

You can't until you log on Dave. The idea being if it wakes from sleep, you probably have files left open and you would loose any unsaved work if you didn't log in and save it. If the machine has restarted or been logged of cleanly, there will be no open user files, so its safe to shut down or restart as nothing will be lost.
