Ahh hells bells , I don't want it to work like that, Dave.

Now I have to uninstall it and move everything , The DL folder is a temp holding area until I archive them on three ... yes three backup redundant hard drives.

Which is all Ben's fault for beating the rule of making extra back ups into my head.

Thank him for me if you see him matey.

...... I'm going back to bed to rest my head.

I'm a bit stuck with how I do things at the moment. My C drive is a tiddly 120-something gig SSD, D drive is a DVD/CDR, E is a sata3 500gig drive (where FSX lives) and I have an old sata2 500gig F drive. I can't afford for stuff to migrate to C drive as it'd fill in short order so everything goes on F. I then move it to FSX as required. GenX is just massive so that lives on F drive and I've more EarthSim stuff than is good for me so that also lives on F. Should I have to reinstall FSX again, I can just point to GenX and Earthsim stuff on F without having to spend a long time reinstalling it. Of course, should my F drive D.. I'm up the creek without a paddle but.. I do have the same versions on another PC (and external) so all would not be lost.. only a pile of stuff I really want

I honestly wouldn't know where to begin mate. As I move from one pc to a new one.. a lot of stuff gets left behind.. a fresh start 'n all that. However, I end up dragging flightsim stuff over (rather than reinstall fresh versions) and this is how I go on. Eventually, the new pc gets tired and I build a new one. The old one gets binned but I keep the HD's. They either get backed up onto an external (things I think are or maybe important) or I put them into external cases and keep them handy. The only drives I don't have in cases are IDE and I dragged what I consider relevant onto an external before breaking the pc's up. I still have the HD's of course but they're not what I'd call 'ready use'

I don't know if I'm tempting fate but I've not had a HD fail in donkeys years. The HD on our office pc failed some 6 years ago which caused a headache but having replaced the drive and reloaded an OS.. I bought SWMBO an external and she backed up weekly. I know we should all backup but I'll leave that to you and Ben

If someone wrote a book on the matter it'd be filed under - Horror or Mystery Mini Series.. something like that.

My first ext. backup drive crashed about three weeks after I bought it. Lost all my FS dl's picks of pop and fam. back in aught 7 or 8.

The short of it
I did a back up of the files and pics on my PC. Then, formatted for a clean install of XP on said PC, A few weeks go by ...I was just finishing up getting all the updates done and whatnot .. getting ready to transfer copies back on to the computer ...
Alas, before I did it, I turned on the PC one morning with backup drive plugged into the usb . but it never booted up. dead deadski. I shaved my head and wore sack cloth ... well not really but I felt like I had. ....Bummed out.
Anyway still have the dead drive... when I can afford the 1200 bucks to have the data extracted, fingers crossed, I'll get it back. ... right? :dunno:
Time goes on... I buy a new laptop about four years ago, I bought a 7200 HD for that and reinstalled the OS on it. Then I bought a 2..5 ext case and backed up all my stuff from the old PC
.
Backup drive Mk1

The I acquire a external kit
Mk2
duplicated all the FS stuff I'd downloaded (again) and other accumulated baggage. on to that.

Picked up a third (Mk3) after .... I warned the people not to buy the hard drive and have me install the OS on the half dead PC, (the MoBo had signs of overheating)
anyway when it gave up the ghost less than a month after they gave me the HD for my time backing up their stuff to a 16 gig thumb drive.

... can I hear a Homer WooHoo! .?

So now I have the three... Can't say I'm any better organized than you though :wasntme:

I know I have duplicates of duplicates and only one copy of some files....

:wasntme:

I'll have to remedy that... but -where do I start. *-)

Ben, re smilies - I use Firefox. Must admit that I do not normally use smilies here, but they have been known to work OK over at SOH.

BTW I presume I'm doing the right thing in dragging the smilie over to the reply box.
