Advice

Post by dodger »

Hi Gents,

I have been looking at 27in Monitors for my Flight Simming in the £180/200 price range but have no idea what to look for as there are so many Reviews of them out there for different Gaming! :hide:

I am using my 14 year old 21in CRT but as we have just sold our home and will be on the move i thought it was a good time to upgrade! ;)

So what to look for? i have uninstalled FS2004 and now have just FSX and i'm using W XP, FSX does not run to bad but would certainly like to improve it without costing an arm and leg!

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers.

Roger.

Hi Roger,

I went for this one when my old one packed up, and am very happy with it - the only monitor I haven't had to bugger about with - just plug and go.

Iiyama E2773 27" Full HD LED Monitor - about 6 down the page.

Hi Graham,

That Monitor looks great and the price is fine,

How are these widescreens with Flight Sim as i am used to my 21in square screen, this is the problem looking in the shops as they do not have FSX [F9] showing on them.

Thanks for the help,

Roger.

2D panels/windows are liable to stretching Roger.. VC's are fine as they're 3D.

If you can afford it and have a graphics card to run it why not go for the 2560 x 1440 Resolution screens? Yes they are 2x as much but a lot of screen and pixels!

Thanks Fellas,

Well that's great Dave as i have got so used to using the VC now and yes i will certainly upgrade my card, in fact once i move and get settled it may pay me to buy a new system as it would properly cheaper in the long run,

The wife says "what are you going to do without your Poooter when we move!" but i will soon get settled once we find a place to live

Anyway it will be a couple of months yet!

Nice to have friends on here to help,

Cheers,

Roger.

Hello Roger,

One thing you might look out for is the monitor's power supply. If it's an adaptor (ie not built-in) check out if it switches between 110v and 240v. If it does have a Google to see if people are complaining about the monitor.

I have a Samsung S27B350 and I went spare as it would flicker when I turned the computer on. After much Googling (wow! don't people get so angry) I worked out for myself what the problem might be. I was in the habit of leaving my monitors switched on when I turned the 'puter off. When I turned it on the monitor would flicker until I turned the monitor off and back on (at the wall, the power switch on the monitor didn't help).

I think (possible BS alert) that when the monitor isn't being driven from the PC the adaptor detects that and drops back to 110v (we're 240 in Oz). When the PC comes back on and is being fed input I think the adaptor isn't clever enough to realize that, and switch up to the correct voltage. In the end I put the monitor on a plugboard with switches, and turn it off when the PC is closed down and on when it's started. No flickering now and it's a really nice monitor.

At the risk of getting barred from the forum for being an OH&S numpty, do make sure that you are able to sit back far enough from the monitor. TBbrutallyH, I like the 27'' monitor but my desk layout keeps me too close. I would probably have been better with a 24''.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the imput,

Graham as you can see has this particular Monitor so that looks ok,

I know what you mean about the distance from the Monitor and yes perhaps a 24in might be better, like i said with my post i'm moving home so until i have found another one i really don't know what set up i will have but it's worth bearing in mind.

Cheers,

Roger.
