Maule

Post by dodger »

Hi,

I am using the default Maule M7 260 in FSX and really enjoying it but i find the Sun is reflecting in the spinning prop as i fly and i have tried changing the prop from another plane and removing the reflections but it's still there,

I just find it irritating and perhaps someone could help in finding how i can remove it,

I would appreciate it,

Thanks,

Roger.

Yes.. I see what you mean 8) It's an aircraft I never fly so hadn't noticed it! This phenomena is also present on the FCS Lanc but thankfully, it's not in your face like the Maule. I dunno Rog but I think that might be set in the model. Happy to be proven wrong though ;)

EDIT: I think it's coming off the Spinner Rog. You could try changing the alpha to get a less chrome finish but it wouldn't look as nice. It may get rid of that awful reflection in the prop though *-)

Like you for all the years i have had FSX it was not until i saw Peter's video with the Maule that i had a look at the default version, except for that prop i think it's a great model they did and it fly's superb,

I will just have to fly at nite

Hi Roger,

Thanks for watching my video...I'm very pleased with the Maule in MS Flight and use it a lot for Airport Jobs (small load passenger or freight flights). One thing that interests me about it is the negative flap setting...You can set it to -7 degrees of up-float and it certainly improves the cruise speed. Does the FSX version have that ability?

It may be possible to tweak the prop material using MDLMat to reduce the shine. *-)
I'll have a look later :cpu:

OK, assuming you're talking about the shine in the VC view, it do-able with MDLMat. :)
As it's a Microsoft file, they may not be too happy about posting a modded mdl on the net, so you'll have to do it yourself. It's not hard though. ;)

Grab yourself a copy of MDLMatXX from here: http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/beta.htm
Backup the "Maule_M7_260C_interior.mdl" file (just in case!)
Run MDLMatXX, and click the question mark in the top left. That will open up the file dialog, so load in the Maule interior model.
The materials are listed on the left hand side, with their details on the right. Click the top material, which should be the one for the prop. Check the texture assignment reads "prop_maule.dds", so you know you've got the correct material.
We need to alter the number in the "Flags 1" box. Change the last digit to a "2" so it reads "136314882"
Click the "Send modified material back" box, then the "save updated MDL" box. You did backup first, didn't you?

That's it.

Hope that helps. :)

Hi Peter,

Looking at the flap settings in the FSX Maule i can only see 0%/25/50/75/100% on the flap lever but on 0% settings looking at the flaps with outside view they are facing up slightly and at 25% they are level with the wings.

Cheers,

Roger.

That's a good tweak Dave. I'm presuming the same can be done with the props on the FCS Lanc? Thinking about it, I'm not sure if you can see the darned things from the VC.. I'll have to take a look. They definitely dislay the same oddity from an external view 8)

Hi Dave, I'm sure it can be done, but the tweak may need changing a bit depending on the materials.
