New REX product

Post by TSR2 »

Hi chaps,

Got an email from REX this morning about a new product, REX 4 Texture Direct. I'm not entirely sure how this fits with REX Essential + Overdrive, but this is the blurb...
REX Texture Direct is a NEW integrated global environment texture, effects and audio add-on that takes advantage of the new core features of PREPAR3D v.2 while enhancing both FSX and PREPAR3D v.1.4 to never before seen heights.
Tailored to low AND high-end systems, REX Texture Direct is comprised of over 16GB of material ranging from standard resolution to high-definition choices. Large, easy to read user-interface and lightning fast texture installation, with the ability to select and install textures individually.
Rating system for shared themes.
Easily switch between simulator preference (FSX, P3Dv1.4 & P3Dv2).
Network capable.
Check for updates feature built-in.
DX9, DX10 and DX11 compliant.
New unique types of cloud base structures. Low/Mid-level 3D clouds, including Stratus, Cumulonimbus, Cumulus, Stratocumulus, Altostratus and Altocumulus. High-level clouds, including Cirrus, Cirrostratus and Cirrocumulus.
14 types of lightning: IC, CC and CG.
Worldwide tropical water classification fix. Water boundaries blend much more realistically. Stunningly realistic water textures and wave animations, compliant with DX9, DX10 and DX11.
Give ALL default airports in FSX and Prepar3D the payware-style treatment! Ultra-realistic airport environments made from photography. Highly detailed textures, including runway textured lighting encasements. Originating from HD source photography, runway tire markings are properly scaled within the simulator creating a more realistic viewpoint. Runways with light or heavy wear... your choice. Many types of runway grooving and material selection. Runway markings now support larger aircraft such as the Boeing 777.
FINALLY, dirty and soiled runway markings at all airport runways worldwide!
Beautiful photo-realistic skies sampled from many locations around the world. HDR texture option included for Prepar3D v2! Properly balanced terrain light and shadow values during dawn and dusk with smoother transitional algorithms. Realistic corresponding haze layer values when encountering the proper WX.
Easy to read, enhanced airport signage. Different lighting conditions dictate the range of colors from yellow to orange and red to amber. A wonderful shiny finish with matte black backings.
Sun, corona, glow, flares and special effects, giving the most realistic renditions of atmospheric conditions. Panning around your aircraft at different angles during beginning or end of day will yield just how dynamic these effects can be. Rendered for DX9, DX10 and DX11!
Environment sound effects. Jaw-dropping in/out cockpit precipitation and thunder sounds.
... and more!

I bought this too. I've played with a few of the different sets & various settings, but I'm still not sure about it to be honest. :S
The overall effect seems over emphasized & not natural. I think I generally prefer the default textures.
I'll play with it some more, but at the moment I feel like I've wasted 20 quid.

I'm still waiting on my download... 12% after 3 hours :S I'll have a play when I get it and see what happens. I really like REX in FSX, but not convinced with it in P3D2. I'll see what happens. :worried:

I'm wondering is it just a fantabulous new version of Rex and will it interfere with Global FTX in any way. If the former I cannot see justification in more outlay, if the latter then a definite no-no.

Ouch, that's going to take a while. Where did you buy yours Ben? Got mine from FlightSimStore, download only took 25mins :hide:

Yes Dave, that's in P3D2. The water in P3d isn't the greatest, but these textures make it look even worse IMHO. I haven't tried all the variations, but what I have seen so far just looks like shiny plastic to me :dunno:

If it's any consolation Dave, I cracked and got the Carenado C90 last night as the sale is about to end. Loaded it up and it sucks the life out of my FSX install on the E8400. I guess I'll be able to fly it at some point in the future but for now.. I'm also a disappointed chappie having said goodbye to £18 I can ill afford :|

Sri to hear the water is so poop in 3Dv2. Perhaps because LM are essentially an aviation company and they're about 'flying'.. scant regard was given to the sea. Pity they saw fit to change it from FSX as for me.. it's one of the things that make FSX.

That's disappointing DG. Reason i bought it was to overcome the crud P3D water. I still haven't got it yet, download died after 5 GB. Kicked it off again this morning and reached the dizzy heights of 300kb, so only 5.5 hours. I got it from flightsimstore too, the problem is my broadband not their servers:(
