That the same card that I just bought John. :) I got mine off Amazon, it's slightly cheaper ;)

Quite a big improvement over my old 460 in P3d, less so in FSX.

RE the graphics cards, I've a 1.25GB Geforce 560ti (the special edition with the extra cores) and it runs P3D very well. I'm sure it would run better with a better card, but its no worse than my FSX.
How does your 560ti perform in FSX? i have 2x 2GB 560ti's and am wondering if i want to hold off P3d untill when the SLI version comes out or to try it on my 2gb version.

Colin, just a thought. Did you make sure that the menu bar isn't showing and that 'Bathymetry' is unchecked in the Options\Settings\Scenery menu?
Both of these have a massive frame rate hit in P3Dv2.

I found turning off tessellation helped a lot with my old card.

Hi Chris,

my FSX is pretty smooth, frame rates between 20 - 30 (limited to 30) depending on how much AI i have on the go. Heathrow can be a bit stuttery.

Been doing some circuits at Bristol this evening in the default Baron and some things became apparent.

Firstly, I am running the GTX560Ti with 1GB memory. I've set the framerate limit to 30 and am getting a solid 30fps for the duration - with commercial and GA operating AI from the airport during my circuits. I can't get rid of the menu bar for some reason, I think Alt is what does it in FSX, but it doesn't do anything for me in P3D. Having said that, as I am getting the 30 frames, it doesn't matter just now. No stuttering or dodgy textures at all so far.

I'm using the JF Real VFR scenery and the VFR airfields set, cloudy skies etc - but my textures are set at 1024x1024 and look just fine for me. I will try it higher when I have upgraded my hardware, but I'm happy for now.

Also, the AI and ATC seem much improved over FSX. Not only was the ATC helpful on my circuits, but when I change the aircraft number to my custom one (my amateur radio callsign) the ATC actually uses that custom callsign to call me. In FSX it didn't. Yes, the custom registration appeared on the side of the model, but when they called me, they still used the default one G-ABFM for the C172, I think it was. I like this new one.

The last thing was that I have all the 'Realism' sliders to the right for my aircraft and I think it does a pretty good job - unlike FSX which made me want to jump out and hit the silk!

Hi John

Sounds like you are getting a good performance with P3Dv2, with AI included.
With regard to the menu bar, hold down the 'Alt' key for a second or so (although I'm sure you already know this). Alternatively, you can right click and select 'Hide the Menu Bar'.
On my system, the menu bar can halve the FPS, so hope this helps.

Regards

Kevin

I just read this on another site:
The one major draw back I can see is the upgrades. There is no patching. When 1.5 or 2.0 comes out, you have to do a full uninstall/reinstall.
Does this mean you have to pay again?
