Who the heck is "Jock"?

Post by J0hn »

A short while ago, I bought various utilities for FSX in the "TweakFS" series, one of which was "TweakFlight".

This allows you to quickly change aircraft and parameters in any saved flight, amongst other things. I had a go today, to see if it could be used with P3Dv2 (it can).

I got a bit of a shock, though, when I started up an FSX flight from within the utility and when FSX booted up, it couldn't find the flightplan - well it wouldn't have, because it was looking for a user called "Jock" - and that ain't me! :-O

So just what is going on here, I'd like to know?

I am assuming either:

1) the developer of the UK2K VFR Airfields installed flights is a Scottish chap, named Jock by his mates.

2) The chap responsible for developing this part of TweakFlight is this Jock character and somehow it's looking on my PC for his FSX files folder.

3) (don't like this one) I have a ghost account on my PC from a hacker who calls himself Jock to avoid being identified.

Opinions would be welcome... :dunno:

Here is the run of events:

Choose a flight:

Get this error message on start-up of FSX (this is where "Jock" makes his appearance...):

The flight starts up as and how it should:

And no, there is no flight plan shown:

But what's this? The flight plan is there, large as life, in my FSX files folder!

So, why was FSX trying to look elsewhere for it? *-)

Edit: Actually, come to think of it, I'm not entirely convinced those flights are from the VFR Airfields install. Maybe I got them from AVSIM or somewhere similar, and the flight refers to a flightplan that was written by the Jock fellow, who uploaded them? - That sounds like a quite feasable idea! Have to go and check out the flight file in a text editor (or TweakFlight).

Further edit - nope, that isn't it. :(

If you go to C:\Users\ and see if there is a folder called Jock. If not, it means the developer has cocked up and left a hard coded variable in his programing where he should have used %userprofile%\documents\flightsimulator\ etc etc he's left his own profile path in. Its nowt to do with the UK2K VFR guys.

Thanks, Ben - I just found out where I got the files from:

http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/ ... k-flights/

Think I might ask them about it.

*apparently a chap called Gordon Wilkinson wrote them - sounds like a 'Jock' to me!
Out To Grass (OTG) is a series of ten flight plans covering most of England and using only grass airfields. The flights are intended to exploit the VFR Photographic Scenery X and the UK2000 Scenery airfields for the three areas covering England. Full briefings are included describing the areas and airfields visited, along with some help with the flying. The Readme has full instructions for installation and recommendations for freeware add-ons required. By Gordon Wilkinson
