I've tried to get smoke back on the release version on and off since.. well, since it was released It's been 3 years now since that time and I realised this morning I still have a good many of the beta's. Smoke was an issue back then.. some saw it while others didn't. For my part.. I lost it only once during beta and got it back by using the older files (not overwriting them with new ones). I had a look in the release version having downloaded it again (from allnodes) and noticed there were no smoke effects in the cfg and no smoke gauge reference in the panel. Now, this may be because it was integrated into the main gauge.. it HAS been a long time and I really can't remember. Anyhoo.. I found the relevant files from the beta's and added the relevant lines and at last.. smoke has returned I know it's not much but it's made me happy
I dunno whether to fiddle some more and risk losing it again. Though I have smoke.. it looks darker than I remember I found some shots I took during beta testing and they showed it to be more graduated.. thick at full throttle and as you backed off, it got lighter..
It did what the previous versions had done...a low pass an go around but it was so tame.
No disputing the great increase in power of the new engines, the lack of real noise AND smoke the Speys gave out there was no sense of power at all.
The ground shook, the chest got hammered...unforgettable and a proper Nimrod without smoke is just not on.
I wonder how many folks would have bothered to even turn round to watch a Space Shuttle lift off if they had been smokeless and sounded like a Cessna 500?
A happy conclusion Dave

Yes.. I was lucky enough to see the MRA4 at Fairford (think it was Fairford) a few years ago and while there's no doubting it's technical superiority over the MR3.. it was rather uninspiring to see.. moreso to listen to. Not a patch on the gutsy old ladies
Cheers Brian It's been a source of annoyance since I loaded the anniversary paints.. when the smoke disappeared. I've kept sneaking back in the hope they'd return as swiftly as they went but no.. it required some lateral thinking and applied fiddling in the end
Forecast for S Wales isn't joyful over the next 24hrs. Stay indoors

I was one of those that never saw smoke from the Nimrod. I can't find any reference to [smokesytem] in the cfg file, but do see the fx files in the effects folder. I can't seem to find any related smoke gauge. Any chance that you could list the changes that you added?
Cheers
Kevin
