Prepar3D V2.0 Beta screenshots

Post by Kevin Farnell »

Just a few tantalising screenshots to show Direct X 11 effects.

Also, P3D V2 gets a proper start up screen.

That does look stunning, could be time to move from FSX?

Taking delivery today of my new PC from Alpine Systems so I am looking forward to V2. Don't think it is worth loading 1.4 now so will just wait in anticipation.

PS PC has just arrived.

Does it use multiple cores to good effect?
I have a Quad i7 that can be overclocked to 4ghz. FSX doesn't really tap into that power.
Would definitely switch to P3D if it does.

According to the blurb yes. To be fair to FSX 7-8 years ago when it was coming out muti-core processors were relatively rare and the future seemed to be throwing more clock cycles at a problem.

The dynamic 3D waves look good, should make for a more 'interesting' experience getting back onto the boat!

Thanks for the reply.
Will I loose anything moving? Compatibility, eye candy or is it better all round?
Guess I will need to wipe and reinstall o/s, then do a clean install of P3D.

BTW what's the difference between Pro and Academic license? The blurb isn't very helpful.

At this stage I'm not sure how the compatibility between versions works, I think FSX/P3D 1.4 stuff will work in P3D 2.0 but I suspect the opposite may not be true.

I don't see why you'd need to do a reinstall of the o/s, I've got FSX and P3D running side by side on this machine and I haven't touched the o/s since 2008 at a guess.

The only difference between versions that I'm aware of is that the Academic version has 'Academic' on the right hand side of the menu bar in game, I believe this is to stop people using it for commercial purposes. Oddly you can develop things without having a developer licence either, although it does allow you to install a copy on two machines.

Skip,
wonder if you would mind clarifying this comment - in particular, does it mean that you can have the Academic version installed on two PCs at the same time, such as a desktop and a laptop, or was it a reference to a different version of the software ?

Thanks in advance for any help,
regards,
Ro

Sorry on re-reading that it was bit vague, the Developer Licence at ~$10 per month allows you to install on two machines. It also means you're automatically allowed to download every version, whereas with the Professional or Academic licences you'll have to pay again for version 2.0 as the current licence is only for version 1.0 and updates. Think of it like going from FS2004 to FSX but with more service packs.
