Just Flight Lightning - any of you own it?

If you have a payware prog whether it be a model, scenery or utility that you have tried.. tell us about it here.

Nigel H-J wrote:As far as I can remember my CFI at the gliding clud was a lightning pilot at Binbrook and during one discussion when talking of cross wind landings in general he said that he just used rudder on approach but maximum cross wind was around 25 kts.

Hope this helps.

If Peter happens to come along he would be able to advise as he had experience of lightningsas a simulator instructor when on ground tour.

Nigel.
Ah thanks Nigel that's useful info. I think Peter helped me out with info on using the rudder in the DG Hunter a while back so would be great if he could give us the definitive answer regarding the Lightning vs Crosswinds. I would "think" that wing-down and slipping could be a no-no in the Lightning during approach (especially with the lack of airflow over that ultra-thin wing) but I stand to be corrected!

TrafficPilot wrote:Bought and installed the Lightning last night. Have emailed Just Flight support with some questions - wondering if any of you who also own the Lightning have noticed that..

The balance ball appears to operate in the opposite direction to what it should (was also a fault on the Tristar apparently..). Finding it impossible to do a balanced turn (slip ball remains out to the left or right despite rudder input). I do not use rudder in turns (I read a comment by a former fighter pilot saying they prefer to fly turns stick only)

I can't see the afterburner effects :( Could this be because I'm using FSX with DX10? I use DX9, no problems there.

Have any of you tried the "alternative flight dynamics" pack available on the Just Flight website? I use it and would recommend it

In the manual they go on about using the "crabbing technique" on approach in a crosswind but their description is more akin to the "wing down" technique. How do you land your Lightning in a crosswind? I tried 25 knots crosswind, just make sure you fly a flat approach. I pointed the nose slightly into the wind using ailerons, the only unnerving moment came right after touchdown, needed to work the rudder a lot to keep off the grass.

Would appreciate your thoughts! Love the sounds and the handling seems very sensitive which is nice.

Thanks Henk - re Rudder - that's what I heard (from Peter on here) about flying the Hawker Hunter.

Re afterburner effects - I guess the JF Lightning is not DX10 compatible.

I'll try those alternative flight dynamics!

You're using the crabbing technique to land in a crosswind which sounds correct to me. Not nice to dip a wing on a low-wing aircraft close to the runway.
