Sea Vixen's would not have taken off on that version of Victorious mate. She went into deep refit in 1950 popping out in '57 as an almost rebuilt ship. Certainly, she bore no resemblance to how she looked prior to that The post refit version is the model I'm waiting for

You still haven't explained how they launched and retreived more than one aircraft.

Fact is.. you are either in a launch state or a recover state as far as I remember. Fraser/Skippy will be more clued up on this being carrier types.

With the advent of the angled deck, you could, in theory, be launching off the bow cats and recovering at the same time as it made doing a bolter much less dangerous but still.. I think it was 'routine' to be doing one or the other.

When a jet lands, it isn't immediately necessary to get it below deck and often, there wasn't time so as soon as it'd come to a stop, it'd retract it's hook and be moved fwd out of the way. When all aircraft were recovered.. they'd be left where they were or stowed below as necessary. Can't remember how many lifts Victorious ended up with but I think Ark had 4 (one either side and 2 from the centre).. at least 3 anyway.. one being just fwd of the island and out of the way of recovering aircraft so this one at least could be used for clearing the FD while flying ops were underway. I think the LH lift may have been on the angled deck part of the FD so probably wouldn't have been used while recovery was happening.

Part of the fun of being the Flyco (head cheese) would be to ensure the sorties were orchestrated so there was always sufficient time between launch and recovery ops and one didn't trip the other one up

Sort of, but Victorious doesn't have room on deck to have one parked whilst one is landing.

There is room up fwd in front of the island to have aircraft parked. You'd get a fair few there with wings folded as they would have been. This was the main reason for need to 're-invent' flight deck ops culminating in the angled flight deck.. a proud British invention and don't let anyone tell you otherwise

Carrier ops have always been about the most dangerous thing a pilot can do.. especially on our titchy carriers!.. and as aircraft got bigger, there simply wasn't room on deck. Put a Sea Venom alongside a Scimitar or Sea Vixen or even a Bucc or Phantom and you'll see what I mean. With the advent of the angled deck, landings were made 'on the angle'.. not straight down the flight deck so this effectively took them away from anything parked up front. Before the angled deck.. you simply had to make sure you got it right or suffer the consequences.

To get an aircraft out of the way with wings folded doesn't take that long in the grand scale of things and the frequency of landings wasn't such that a landed aircraft couldn't 'clear'. Should this happen, the next in line would be waved off for a go around.

So.. in a nutshell, straight deck = landing or taking off.. angled deck = simultaneous landing and taking off if req. Parking.. not your problem, that's what the FDO is for

I like the comment that the Hermes was an economy model
