Sadly, I'd forgotten the significance of today's date.. RW intervention e t c. We've had a number of progs broadcast this side of the pond over the last few days but again.. when you work irregular shifts on irregular days, the days themselves lose their identity as do the weeks and months.

A nice tribute MIB ;)

Thanks MIB. Definitely an unforgetable day. I never knew I could be filled with such hate for someone until that day. :OB:

Just as when JFK was shot,so I like many others can remember exactly where I was when I first heard this news.I was working in the mains comms room atDerbyshire Police HQ at Ripley,on a project install some new kit when someone comes in and says that he thought he'd heard on the radio that some daft b*gger(his words) had flown his aeroplane into a building in NY.Little did we realise !EricT
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!

Thanks for the kind words mates. I can only echo your words. Sadly, I was only 7 yrs old at the time and I just couldn't comprehend the scale of that tragedy, I used to treat it like any regular car crash heard on the news, could not understand why my parents were making such a big deal out of it. But rest assured...as the time passed, I became increasingly absorbed, my mind was evolving, everything started to become clear for me, ending up today (as well as for the rest of my life) to feel like I actually lost someone there and then. You don't know what true compassion for your peers means until you end up in my situation (of not loosing anybody, but feeling like u did).
One things makes me sick these days....those "smarter than everybody" people writing books, blogs sites and so on, in which they present to us their own sick opinions regarding the "truth about 9/11". Things like.."the US military was involved", "UA175 was actually a B737 filled with napalm, "AA11 was actually a rocket" as well as sh**s like this. That's simply outrageous, it's a chronic lack of respect for the thousands of poor innocent victims, as well as for the brave men and women who are risking their lives and are dying to make sure satan doesn't strike us again. But I'm trying not to pay attention to them.

Nice tribute.

I happened to be on duty during my compulsory social service (an alternative to military service here) - in a refugee camp.
So I was surrounded by Afghans and Iraqis watching the live coverage on CNN... sadly ironic on the long run...

It felt like the whole world had changed within hours - I'll never forget.

One of those events, in which you will always remember where you were when it happened.
I was actually in the air, flying Ryanair from Stansted to Stockholm for a company meeting. I was sat near the front of the coach on the way to the hotel and could hear the driver’s radio. At this point, I was still unaware of the events that had unfolded (nothing had been said on the aircraft) and thought the radio must have been business news as I kept hearing 'World Trade Centre' amongst the Swedish talk.
It wasn't until we got to the hotel that the driver suggested we watch TV to see what had happened. As I got into the hotel lobby, there was a TV replaying the events over and over. My colleagues and I stood for about 90 mins, aghast watching the unbelievable news before we even checked in.
There were many Americans staying at the hotel who had no idea when they would get home due to the closed US airspace.
The sense of shock and loss was immense. I remember suggesting to a colleague, that if it had been the plot for a movie it would be described as impossibly far-fetched.
On the flight back, three days later, we were only allowed to take the clothes we were wearing into the cabin. Everything else went in the hold.
After all these years, it’s still hard to believe it happened.
May all of those who perished in the events rest in peace (except the perpetrators – may they rot in Hell !!!!).

I came out of the shower so didn't have my glasses on.

The telly was on and I thought...oh no repeats again...towering inferno again!!!...all I could make out was a tall building on fire.

Then I notice the red banner on the screen so I put my glasses on and read 'CNN NEWS Aircraft crashes into World Trade Centre Breaking news' or something similar.

I was just trying to take that in when the second aircraft came into view and hit the second tower....I just stood there.

I'd like to tell you what I thought but to be honest I didn't think anything really...I just couldn't comprehend what I was seeing

It was a beautiful afternoon here and I looked out the window. The sky was blue the birds were twittering, clouds softly floated by and the trees gently moved in the light breeze.

I looked back and the TV to see that with now the other building well ablaze and just couldn't believe this was all on the same planet.

I was well aware of the event as I had just seen it but to get a sense of reality into what seemed too incredible to believe was the hard bit.

It was just too big to fully take in. I suppose it was just shock, but it was if my senses were hit so hard that they just shut down into a sort of numb denial.

Then the panic set in on the news as it was revealed about the hijacking and the other two. They were grounding flights as quickly as they could, everything was suspect.

Most big events happen, then from that moment, begin to subside as things get under control, but this was very different

This started out bad and just got worse and worse over a period of hours. People didn't know were to run to. It was horrible to watch and tbh if that had been a scripted action film it would have been considered far fetched and over the top...nothing like that could really happen...yet you know it has.

When you have to accept that it is happening, well, yes, you know this is a watershed. You have no idea of the future but you know that things will never be the same again.

The most frightening thing in life is having to accept the reality of something you just wish had never happened...when it sank in and I did start to think I was very aware of that.

In many ways I remember just about every minute of that afternoon, what I said and what was said to me.
