Broome International

This is a preview of the latest ORBX airport under development. Broome in Western Australia. I know nobody here will be buying it, myself included, so I wouldn't normally highlight it. But this is exceptional, even for ORBX. The setting is beautifully tropical and the detail is amazing. The coverage area includes the whole town and surrounding coastal area in varying degrees of detail. It's worth looking at the screenshots to see what is becoming possible in FS scenery. The screenies become even more impressive the further you scroll down.

Seriously, though Dave, I see your point. They are doing super jobs on all their individual airports.

It seems that many suppliers are offering discounts about now. I wondered whether Earth Sim were panicking over ORBX, but Alabeo, Just Flight etc are at it.

Yup.. I wasn't being negative about Broome at all, it IS an outstanding bit of scenery. I just can't see where the detail is any better than the last couple of UK releases. Perhaps you have to 'be there' to experience it

There may be something in your EarthSim comment. I know they're stopping stocking/selling DVD versions which was a major reason for the recent sale.. to get em off the selves and off stock but I understand there are plans for scenery packs/areas to compliment GenX and these will go down a treat with GenX users. I don't think they're panicing as such. ORBX scenery remains very much the 'Marmite' of the FS world and GenX has a massive following. The thought of having the accuracy of photo scenery plus the detail of say 'Shawbury Field' or the NWales demo area to cover the whole GenX area should be enough to keep Earthsim in business for a long time yet

Dave, you're right in that the level of detail doesn't reach that of Elstree, for instance, but it's of a greater variety, covers a much larger area (including the whole town of Broome) and includes a lot of new items not seen before in Orbx. It has a jetty in an azure sea with AI ships specific to Broome and it's got sunshine, a tropical beach and red earth and a whole new library of tropical trees, plants and flowers. Don't mind me. I'm bored. I'm off work and being treated for pneumonia. I haven't actually got pneumonia. My symptoms don't quite tally with anything known to medical science so me and the doc thought we'd have a go at pneumonia and see what happens. If that doesn't work I may have to change my symptoms to match something else he fancies. Anyway, the point is that the pain, painkillers and antibiotics are playing havoc with my ability to enjoy myself. I can't even sit at the PC for more than 5 mins so no flight simming. And certainly no cycling (or housework ) All I can do is read, watch the TV or write rubbish like this via the iPad. I almost wish I was back at work ...

Yes indeed.. what more could a simmer ask for I'd noticed the coverage area was large and in all honesty.. it'd not be possible to cover an area of that size in any detail with a few screenshots

I can't stand being ill at all and here I am sat at home with something buggered on my left side. No idea what I've done and it wasn't done at work but it feels like my right side did when the Triumph spit me off a few years ago leaving me with a dislocated collar bone and a couple of cracked ribs. I'm a big fan of self-healing and as I'm not back at work until Sat.. I hope that's long enough

Oh no, it's much worse than that Dave. How do I know? The present Mrs Speedbird is showing concern. She's never shown any concern before. It encouraged me to check how well she'd be compensated if the grim reaper came knocking. She'd be very comfortably off indeed and still young enough to enjoy it. So obviously I haven't told her in case she becomes less sympathetic Oh it's such a minefield out there

Mike. thanks for the offer of your possum roadkill and bushtucker stew. It's very kind of you. However I've still got the strength to fight you off and spit it out. Perhaps later... I can't see anything on the National Health Service website about the restorative properties of witchety grubs so I think I'll pass, mate
