Chuffed to rocks...

Post by J0hn »

Hey, lads, I have a Logitech G940, which I've always thought is just great - but I really dislike the horrid software that comes with it - and now that Logitech have ditched the HOTAS from their range, no improvements will be forthcoming.

This prompted me to save up for a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and I just ordered it today! YIPPEEE! It'll be here on Wednesday and I'm really excited :welldone: feel like a kiddy on Christmas morning!

The Warthog had just been released when I bought the G940 - I didn't look at it because it was £100 more expensive. Now it can be had for £280 at Overclockers UK - most others still have it at £350 - too much. So if you fancy one, OcUK is the place to head for.

I'll still be using the G940 for some sims and the rudders in any case, which I will attach to either an RS232 to USB converter and if that doesn't work, my BU0836X from Leo Bodnar. I am building an up front controller panel for that, too.

It's all go! :D

G940? Hated it went back to my old Saitek. It festers in a box under the stairs. What a waste of $400.

I've got a Warthog, cracking piece of kit :agree:

Hope you've got a strong enough desk, it weights a ton

I've dumped the Thustmaster Target software. It works OK, but not all the buttons & switches are available to FSX. I now use FSUIPC to assign the axies, and LINDA for the buttons and switches. Nothing assigned in FSX itself.

That's interesting, Dave (about FSX). I recently got a licence for FSUIPC so should be OK. I heard about this LINDA elsewhere, but don't know who she is - time to get Googling. :)

I'll probably stick with the G940 for FSX (though I'll definitely try the Warty with it) as I really like the force feedback effects, especially for feeling the undercarriage lock up or in conjunction with AccuFeel. 'Lift-off' and touchdown are easier to recognise, too.

The throttle & stick are 2 separate USB controllers. The Target software combines them into a single virtual joystick. DirectX only supports up to 32 buttons (I think) per controller and the Hog has way more than that! There may be a way around the limitation, but TBH I didn't like the Target software much anyway, so I didn't look too far.
If you're using the stick with DCS you don't need the software anyway as it's fully supported in the sim.

If you go the LINDA route for FSX, there's an Avsim forum for it here: http://forum.avsim.net/forum/424-linda/

Blimey - the G940 is a meaty bit of kit and the force feedback is great - but next to the Warthog it looks like a kid's toy! :-O

Yeah another Warthog user here, my X52 was starting to play up, started getting sticking stick and not enough accuracy in the central area. All the hand grips were peeling so decided its time to change, sadly the Warthog doesnt work well with BF3 :-(
