HU IE v10 arrived suddenly

Post by hobby »

Big update from MS last night. When I switched on my computer this afternoon I found that it took ages to process the update from MS rc'vd last evening.

I found some of my files and one shortcut on my desktop had vanished and when I loaded my FS9 setup I had to reset my preferences, assignments and I had to recalibrate my joystick.

My favourites had also vanished to an unknown location and so I had to remember all my favourite websites and re-enter them into my blank 'favourites' list.

My opening page seems to have changed from Yahoo to MSN - I don't really like these compulsory changes.

Thanks for the HU James ;)

I won't be getting it on this pc as XP will only ever go as high as IE8 but I'll watch out for it on my Win7 pc and the laptop. Just had the laptop on as it happens and no sign of anything happening *-)

As these things evolve.. MS expect us all to be social networking geeks with touchscreens, tablets and smartphones don't they. I don't like what they've done to Hotmail. I keep getting prompted to setup my phone and I don't have a phone with internet access

With trepidation, I installed IE10 the other day and have to say not disappointed. It seems faster then IE9 and no glitches so far. Other than that no difference as far as I can see. Of course having said all that it is inevitable that I will start to have crashes and lock ups almost imm............................................

I downloaded this about a week ago as a Windows update (Windows 7 64Bit Pro SP1), only to find my web browsing ground to a virtual standstill. On many websites, text was re-sized and didn't fit the window correctly. Since removed and back to IE9. Everything running as it should. Anyone else have a similar experience and any advice why I had such a terrible experience with IE10?

Regards

Kevin

I remember they tried to sneak IE8 in "under the radar" as part of a routine WIndows Update - and that was after the EU decision which made the compulsory bundling illegal. I don't use IE, so I always check the updates proposed, because there is no sense using up bandwidth allowance to download a security fix for something I don't use.
Another reason is that too many of their updates just don't work, with the results Kevin describes.

Good old Tony

I've had my Win7 pc on a couple of times both yesterday and today and there's no sign of IE10 being dumped on me yet. Likewise.. no sign of it attacking the Vista laptop either *-)

I must admit that I have set my W7 for auto downloads but that means I can then select the update I wish. I did have a couple of updates that mucked up the system about a year ago, so it meant that I could restore back & then deselect the offending update!
I have though last week updated to IE10 & find it OK, although I do double up & share Firefox.

Not a lot of difference between 9 and 10, and it won't auto install. It is listed in the security updates, but by default its deselected at the moment, so you'll only get it if you tick the box. I've been running it on Windows 8 since last august (it shipped with Windows 8, there was no IE9) and haven't had a problem. Also have it running on my Windows 7 Asus netbook without issue (its only got a little Intel Atom CPU)

I will download the IE update the next time I accidentally click the IE icon when trying to click on Firefox 0:)
It's not that Firefox is any better. Just that IE has become so much worse.
