Rob, Good luck with the test flight - think about JF VFR scenery around Wolverhampton.....I think its quite good, not as good as the real thing though.
Hope you are not airsick or sensitive in the ear organs - it can be quite a problem moving ones head around whilst the aircraft is maneuvering also. (The only time I was airsick was in a Hunter T7 from Farnborough which was doing a low level flight to Wales & back, & I was taking plenty of Photos - never airsick in my early years though with my father flying his Proctor, must have got desensitised at an early age...).

Strange as it may sound, often, when people think of any exam or test they have taken in that way they usually end up pleasantly surprised. Not a bad thing really Rob, many who I have met in the past have said of their tests or exams Oh, it went really well, got on fine, think I've passed!! Then comes the results!!

Far better to be critical of yourself as you were, that way you keep focused.

I've always found that to be the case too Nigel, apart from my Sgt's exam the other year, I found that difficult and failed miserably

I've never suffered with airsickness Keith so fingers crossed, there's one thing for sure, I won't be touching a beer for at least a week before!

A tip, which I found very useful when flying in high winds in the MD902 (a real vomit comet in the back) nibble on a ginger nut biscuit prior to flight, it is an old wives tale but it works!!!

Haha. I'll give it a try, I'll just make sure nobody see's me!!

I'm currently sat studying 1-50000 OS maps surrounding CCAOU, typically it's right in the corner of one of the sheets so I don't know which is best to study! I figure if I know the main roads/railways/rivers and towns beforehand it'll free up some much needed brain capacity to do something useful, like not get hopelessly lost!

Good idea, also don't ignore Birmingham, its only a couple of minutes flying time away and if they want city nav its the ideal choice!

City nav is what worries me most I think, purely because of the vast amount of information I imagine you have to process. I'm trying to learn the distinguishing shapes and landmarks then 'flying' over in Google Earth and cross referencing. The only clue we've been given is that it's likely to be somewhere within 25NM of the base. That gives a good mix of city and rural for them to play with.

They would assume give you big landmarks and maybe some AtoZ work. I ran a selection process at the end of last year so I am familiar with the flight testing, however it was for our unit and not NPAS, I do not know how they are doing things as in my view have a cock arsed way re selection etc, Cranwell has always been a must for us and has proved itself in quality of recruit and costs, NPAS were very keen but like everything cost and empire building got in the way
Anyway study the maps, prepare for some AtoZ work just in case

You mean to say that you cannot have your Sat Nav with you......most of those give you street names etc!
Glad you have not been airsick Rob so far & hope that continues - its the head rotation bit usually when the aircraft is in a banked turn & ones ear 'gyros' topple. I think the IAM desensitising operation is now at N Luffenham, together with the altitude/hypoxia stuff. (I was in charge of the D.O. that designed some of the torture machines used for desensitising) & one of the IAM Hunter T7's was for use by the 'sickies' with the Pilot being a very rare breed of being a fully trained Dr as well as a Flying Instructor.

Back in 't last century 1st job was aerial photography . The A-Z worked really well around Manchester in A Beagle Husky [ nice repaint of G-ASNC c.1973 in britsim ] at 45kts .
Just remember not to stop at the red traffic lights .
Seriously , best of luck with the rest of selection ; just remember the others will be more nervous and less skilled than you . And fs is a simulator and does a tremendous job . Others won't have the fs advantage .
